Ewes With No Appetite

Aye-up,

With the relentless snotty weather and being a bit short of grass, I’ve brought in half a dozen ewes that lamb in 5-6 weeks time.

Three of them are grand and in good nick. Three of them are a bit lean for my liking and so I’ve split them off and thought I would give them extra feed.

However, they have other ideas and appear to want next to nothing. They’ve been in two days, touched hardly a nugget of feed, nibbled a bit of hay and barely skinned the fodder beet.

Any idea?

Cheers, Pete.

Goat mix as it smells lush, something else with high molasses content or ivy if their ill? I bought some ewes in as they started lambing, 3 with TLD within 48 hours so they went back out, they were eating well before and while in, doubt they’ve ever been in the shed in their life mind 🤷🏻‍♂️

They’re on a coarse mix with a bit of soya mixed in to make 19%. They all love it, but not these three.

We had 12 hours of snow on the ground 2 weeks ago but have 2 foot of water on 300 acres for 2 months, I’m not sure what is worse.
I only have a few acres of flat land and some of it is under a foot of water. Nothing is where it should be at the moment here due to the land being too wet or sheep getting buried in snow. Moved 400 hoggs inbye before Christmas due to blizzards where they were. They would have been buried in wall backs and gills if we hadn’t moved them. They are still here now. Moved them out of the previous bit because it was too wet. Just making it up as I go on ha
