Couldn't tell you what we're paying, but for service, can't beat KFS in the South East.

Great bloke, good communication, and turns out whenever we need him- even came and picked up a dead cow yesterday afternoon.
That said, when I was outside Inverness, we just had a 'dead hole'. Everything went in that- when it was full, just got a chap in with a 360 to dig another.

How dare you? British farming doesn't need this bad press, have you not got anything better to discuss?
I like a joke as good as the next man BUT I also farm right in the middle of a village (that gets a load of tourists too) and I`ll tell you what it`s a fair old job trying to keep everything as good as possible ( without having to try and avoid gossip/criticism of another so called farmer, who lets say isn`t too particular). What I`m trying to say is that the British public is VERY aware of what goes on/should go on, on our farms ( think Countryfile, etc, etc.) and the type of thread that you guys are taking the p*ss about ( or my view on the beginning of it!) really isn`t very helpful on a PUBLIC forum. You might think it funny but believe me there are some very "strange" folk about who soon get things totally out of all proportion in their views on farming......
You might think you are very clever, that isn`t my description of a smartar*e who thinks we don`t need to worry what the public think of us..
There are folk on here who I`ve had a fair degree of respect for their views over quite a period of time but I`ll tell you what it`s gone now.... I can also see why folk stop visiting this forum too..
Ps I`ve no doubt you`ll think it very amusing that I`ve risen to the bait ( in the right circumstances I would too), but I am not joking that type of thread is for the mart cafe or a private discussion in the pub - NOT a PUBLIC forum.

Not quite sure if you’re taking the Michael here. You fully engaged in the joking then a few hours later appeared to regret that decision and posted the above - pretty much replying to your own earlier post?

Compared to a lot of threads on TFF, the chat on this one has been pretty tame and uncontroversial imo.

I farm next to Montgomery, a town populated by an unhealthy number of Guardian readers, all of which are an authority on all things agriculture. The farm is a maze of very busy footpaths, so I am fully aware of public perceptions and having to keep things 'looking right' and clearing any deadstock from view almost before they die.

I do still have a sense of humour though, I hope.

Sorry mate, no offence was intended to you, I just couldn't help myself. My thoughts, opinions and crappy sarcastic jokes are my own and I enjoy my freedom to voice them.

I do understand what you're getting at, but honestly I don't really give a toss what the general public think, they can please themselves. Vast numbers of people are completely removed from, and ignorant of the reality of the processes that enable their very existence, I don't see it as my responsibility to protect their precious innocence, and anyway, I reckon you writing on a public forum that we should keep schtum about less savoury topics does more damage to 'farming PR' as it makes out there is things going on behind closed doors that are wrong, and we are conspiring as an industry to hide them... which is of course nonsense.

Apology accepted, and I did enjoy your little joke about " nothing better to discuss" even though it was directed at me...
What really annoyed me was the stupid start to that thread which would have far better been ignored by all...

trouble is the Hunt here can only take so much stuff. and theres a lot of stock still kept around this part of Devon.
company not far away a professional (they still had ministry /Defra doing brain sampling /scrapie back along ) with good staff and modern well kept wagons will take Ewe for a bit more than £25 and will also shoot for free if required .

To resurrect this thread - just been told that our fallen stock has gone up to £50+Vat for a ewe (was £35+Vat which I thought was enough of a kick in the balls already).

Has to be collected as their site was sold for houses.
Time for a change of collector? Could you get one of the bigger firms to drop you a bin off? Our man does a bin that fits 5 big ewes in (or 8/9 scrawny hill ewes) for £80

So when will we be paid for fallen stock again? The price of tallows has risen significantly, so when?
When oil got ridiculous and fuel was up at £2.00 our knacker bill dropped as Pointons weren’t charging for tipping. Their byproducts were that dear they’d dropped their charges. But fuel is back a bit now and the knacker bill has crept back up a bit as they’re back charging for tipping
