FG2 sheep netting fencing on Mid tier stewardship

We used box strainers and my claim has been rejected. I’ve been told I have to replace them with struts which is going to be a tight ball ache with an erected fence!
What a pain in the arse. We’ve done some of ours recently, been using box barriers at start and end of runs but banged a big wooden post inside and strutted. Do you think they’d accept that?

The FG1 and FG2 specs are a bit screwey. They specify ‘new softwood’ when recycled railway sleepers would last MUCH longer (plus new creosoted sleeper-size softwood is £45 as opposed to £29 for good sleepers). Also their minimum spec for strainers (100x100mm) is tiny.

I wouldn't trust the new specs updated this year. If you read them properly, there's a lot of set sizes i.e. a post will be 125mm for example instead of saying a minimum of 125mm. That's just a made up example but the wording is quite clear. They've removed the "at least" bit from the previous spec. With a keen inspector most fences constructed properly would fail to meet spec even though they could be built exceptionally well.

Would @Nemo and @Kam contact the Association of Fencing industries with the correspondence received from ths RPA and permission to look into it? They may not be able to help directly unless it was installed by a contractor who is an afi member. They may not be able to help directly but are unable to look for a resolution to this matter with the RPA without evidence of how the RPA have Interpreted their spec.

They have a contact form on their website .

Thats absolutely crackers, I thought the british standard was updated to get over this nonsense.
Nothing in the British standard 1722/2/2020 to exclude box struts. It was written in such a way that in theory you can build strainers anyway you like, AS LONG as they hold and the wire stays tight, so as not to exclude any method of construction and allow for future improvements or new styles.

But remember the standard the fence needs to be built to and not a spec. The RPA can spec any type of fence it wants as long as the end product is built to the standard.

Yeah ok, I see what you mean, possibly they're being deliberately obtuse to look for reasons not to pay out.

6-20 weeks for HLS and only got it at 20 weeks as I went higher up in RPA thanks to @Formatted who gave me a contact .
Who was the contact?
Also I've heard rumbling from other sources that you are no longer allowed to use "recycled" material to put up stewardship fences ? So no more railway sleepers and Tele poles then ? Put some up last year using them and it was no problem!

I can’t see in the standards where it specifies “New”, but my advisor tells me that that’s what they want to see. Also, the spec does specify “softwood”- I’ve got no idea what those heavy old sleepers are (70% tar, probably…)

I’ve heard that people can get into arguments with them to get their grant money.
