fitting 6 cylinder engine into major

I have just been talking to a relative some distance away and he has bought an old Fordson Major with a knackered engine and now he is looking for a 6 cylinder engine to fit... someone has told him that an engine from a Ford Cargo or early D series will fit is this correct?
has anyone used a Major after conversion?
what is it like on hilly ground??

Ideally you want an engine out of a combine if you're going to use it as a tractor.

They have the correct fuel pump which governs on speed rather than power.

FIL had a major with a 190 cargo engine in it, no good for PTO work as you'd open the throttle to get the implement spinning, then it'd come on boost and just take off....

Was it not the 6 cylinder Thames Trader engine was the best fit?

The D Series were in in their side as you can see here. So definitely at the very least a sump needed.
