Just watching the two ladies with the pigs on this morning , I think the plan going forward is they dont want anything intensive if at all possible (or at least they wont pick up the pieces when it goes wrong ) , also about abattoirs / transporters getting their house in order and paying staff a decent wage , I do worry about long term future of supply , if they are this simplistic over the supply chain .

The Volte face with the RSPCA was welcome if a little late. First panning the "industrial" agriculture on Twitter and then belatedly the Policy Director (who has the Freedom Foods accreditation for many of said pigs on straw based systems) coming out on behalf of the animal's welfare

There is no plan except export the problem to somewhere that can't see it

Eustice was on about illegal to affect contracts for imports but I'm sure if it was the French they'd find a Neil Parrish Amendment pretty quick to disbar these imports

Maybe that's what Boris wants Farmers like a latter day Scargill at the ports ?

Yes, but the carbon system means that they can easily pay more than generously for the land they buy to plant trees.

It hasn't sunk in to most livestock farmers, particularly ruminant animals, that the agenda is to get rid of them from the UK to allow the UK to claim to be 'carbon free' with trees and re-wilding being not only prioritised but actively promoted instead of grassland fields and meadows that dominate the landscape in many areas today.
The penny will drop with farmers eventually, when the pips are squeezed sufficiently. We are currently in a sort of agricultural 'Indian summer' but this will come to an end rather soon and the reality of Brexit and the policies of both major political parties are seen through. Farming and food production plays an insignificant part in their grand plan. Indeed they both aim to virtually phase grassland farming out, only they daren't say so out loud in so many words.

There are many stupid things happening for utterly stupid reasons but I do feel a hint of optimism that farming could inadvertently 'win'.
UK ag as driven production ever upwards while margins have been cut to a minimum or less.
Lets see land diverted out of production and see demand outstrip supply.
The future would be quite rosy IF the cartels of RT, processors and supermarkets didn't already control most of their supplies through contracts and blackmail.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
