GPS system for Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme SG40 and R2-SG77

I really need a GPS for drilling with Case Magnum 7120 (M reg) pulling a 4m Great Plains direct drill. The drill is over 8m long, so not really an act of war to turn back on myself on the headland! Ideally could do with a system that could be switched to my other tractor (Case Maxxum MXM 120 '03 Reg) for other jobs

I applied for the GPS/Autosteer system option under the Countryside Productivity Grant Scheme thinking a 40% grant (comes to just under £1,300) would be handy - details from the handbook are as follows:

SG40 - GPS linked to auto steer and implement control - a standalone GPS unit with automatic field boundary measurement and field recognition. It must have a minimum capability of straight and curved guidance modes and be capable of linking to implement control and auto steer. £1,366
R2-SG77 - GPS Auto Steer Auto steering system linked to GPS to enable auto steering to be used on older tractors. System to include electric, hands-free, automated steering system with easy installation onto steering wheel or column. £1,855

So far I have been offered a John Deere Starfire system for about £9K which looks quite good but leaves me having to find 8 grand that I hadn't really budgeted for. Also Trimble XCN 1050, with Easy pilot steering kit has been suggested

Must confess I am more of a stockman and a bit clueless when it comes to this kind of tech - I can just about manage my Agricision for fert spreading! If any of you GPS gurus out there have a better idea on systems that would do the job I am all ears.

Thanks

What about Fieldbee - only 5600 euro for receiver, display and manual steering unit - bargain?!

Think I saw on another thread that someone was looking at it - has anyone tried it? Am a bit wary of buying something online (from the Ukraine?!) and then finding it doesn't do what it says on the tin

Are you on any water authority schemes (Severn Trent steps etc) as these are far more realistic in terms of system costs.
the countryside Productivity Grant Scheme is useless in this respect

If you aren’t IT and tech savvy you need to buy something with back-up. If it was me I wouldn’t look further than Greenstar. Who’s going to support you from the Ukraine?

Good thinking - we are on the River Thame (tributary of the Thames) so will check...

5600 euro for a light bar? Surely more to it than that!

I have applied for a similar grant under the Severn Trent STEPS grant scheme. Waiting to hear how I got on... ?

Similar budget as you... Will go for a Fieldbee if successful but NOT the autosteer option....this year.

Went for John Deere greenstar in the end - with autosteer I managed to knock them down to 8K!! Luckily a generous neighbour is helping out and we are going to share it. Might go for Fieldbee next time when I know a bit more about the job

Better not mention this bit to the grant people - I hope your neighbour isn't claiming as well.

Yes good point - what I mean to say is that it is mine and I am going to do some contracting for him to pay off my overdraft which now resembles the Brazilian national debt!
