High Wage Economy

High wages, high skills…….high levels of intangible bullshite more like.

what about folk who aren’t academically gifted in that respect?

On one of his programmes Fred Dibnah was talking to a night watchman who said he got a lot of grief on sites from the unemployed and Fred said the problem with losing the industries was that it “did away with the jobs for the thickos”. Not the most PC description of the situation, but right.

What do folk that aren’t able to become “highly skilled” do in the make believe world of unicorns and fairies this total bellend inhabits?

Wages/salaries have nothing to do with being academically gifted. They are linked only to two things: how hard you will work and your effective worth in the marketplace.

The UK government at all levels needs to be drastically and permanently shrunk. I would abolish all the regional governments forever. They are just a costly jobs for the boys invention. I don't care where the UK government is sat, I just want them to be cheap.

One rule I would immediately enforce and make law: no civil servant, anywhere, and I mean anyone, anywhere shall ever earn a greater salary than the Prime Minister. That is the end of it. If people don't think the remuneration is enough they can fudge off and get a real job.

Sir Peter Bottomly stated this week that the £82,000 basic salary for MPs was "grim" to live on and that instead they should be paid something more akin to that of a GP's salary.

One thing that I fully agree with as mentioned in your post though - the number of MPs (and Lords) should be reduced significantly i.e. probably halved.

I would argue that MPs should be paid more, there is a cost attached to working in London. HOWEVER:

-There should be less of them.

-All their expenses will be published in full in the public domain and available for public scrutiny.

-Their personal tax returns will be published annually, in full and in detail.

-They will NOT hold directorships or any other appointments whilst they are an MP.

-They are banned from accepting any and all donations or monies or anything else from anyone during their election campaigns or whilst in office.

-They will get a set amount of money per year to run their office and supporting staff. If they want to spend more, they will do so from their own pocket.

-They may NOT employ their wives or other family members nor that of any other MP on their team.

-MPs defecting to other parties will immediately lose their seat and be forced to enter a local election if they want to be back in the game.

-All MPs will be obliged to attend a minimum number of parliamentary sessions per year. Those failing to meet this requirement will be kicked out and barred from being in any form of public office again.

Start with Scotland .

Star me with Scotland .

I don't mind if the UK was governed entirely by a parliament that sat in the Isle of Mull. I just want the government to be cheap. The public sector (and it's pension liability) has grown too much in the last 30 years and it's not sustainable. It's that simple. It is costing you and I money. I don't mind taxation. I detest wasted tax revenue.

So true....

I was chatting today on this very subject and the Kickstart scheme that allows young people to gain workplace experience. We know someone offering this and probably 25% max are actually useful, the "grads" are as bad as the non Uni educated!!

exactly, high is only high if its compared to a low wage. if every one had a high wage, it wouldn't be high!
There is another way to get pay equality /parity, the low wage economy!!!🤔

Fcùk, that's Arden's strategy in Ehohtearhrowa (Formerly New Zealand)!!!
Control the people with fear, decimate businesses, undermine the economic base , control and manipulate the media, divide the health system , create apartheid , deconstruct and imbalance the democratic potical system and persecute the productive.
Not forgetting a shipload of debt.

Did I miss anything Dave, Stewart or Pete???

Oops, forgot the slow "controlled" spread of a virus going south....☹

Ardern has done to NZ what Clarke does with Jacinda when they do the horizontal tango.🤔
