How do I weigh down my loader tractor ?

That’s a grand idea but I usually cart them wrapped , good idea for winter carting them from land away from home ?

Just use the same bale every load. One at each end

I had a A frame on the back and made a weight frame on it and clipped wafer weight on and it would lift above trailer drawbar and then lower when in field to carry bales .

I don't think you'd get that trailer off without blocks taking up the space beneath its skid. Even then it would be marginal

Weight behind the rear wheels is really the only answer. If you can't spike a bale you could have a bale lifter in the field and a weight block in the yard. If they were on A frames it wouldn't slow you down too much.

3 point linkage bale carrier designed for two wrapped bales. carry on empty trailer and slot it between bales on full load, and will also save you time in the field when you can fetch a bunch of bales over to the trailer three at a time.

Alternatively... trade the tractor in for a 120hp loader tractor

Would the operator have to be careful not to hit the back of the cab with the folded spikes?

We have a weight frame, home made , on the rear linkage with 8 or so weights hanging inwards towards the tractor. Can pick up feed trailers with it on and improves stability a lot.

Linkage mounted weight is by far the best and the only type that relieve stress on the front axle. Not practical when regularly using a trailer with loader work though. Next best is water ballasting of tyres. It does improve stability of the unit very well but care should be taken not to overfill the tyres and to add a suitable antifreeze.

Buy a few weight blocks that lift with a 9 hole bar or similar, I bought a 25 cwt one for £80 at an auction and already had a 18 cwt one at home, it's there since I was in nappies lol. And just leave them near wherever you will be hooking off trailer. I always keep the big one at the yard

We used a old plough headsstock, welded a piece of channel on to it high up and hung tractor front weights on it. Was used for ballast to help grip when discing but could move grain trailer with it but ideally be better on pin or trailer with long draw bar.
