Is a cow leaking milk at the slaughterhouse a welfare issue ?

Few years ago had a Belgian chap turn up on the yard asking for milking work, said he was a qualified vet back home and had the papers to prove, needed someone to do some milking so said yes. Couple of days later when milking he came out the parlour to find my dad and said we had a cow with a big problem a very big abscess and needed to phone the vet to operate immediately, dad went into the parlour to find a fresh heifer with a very large swelled milk vein. Long story short he left a month later after having a job as the head vet in a slaughterhouse…

Guessing you’re not a dairy farmer.
If a haulier or slaughterhouse choose to overnight stock then it’s their responsibility to care for the animals needs.
Slaughtering starts early hours so many need stock in by 3-4 am

Only until something goes wrong with your stock. Then your financially or legally liable.

When a cow is naturally dried off and leaks milk on farm is that a welfare issue ?
Oh no because that is not seen by a bloody jobsworth vet.

I don't think you milk cows @Sharpy , when you dry off a cow she might be giving 20/25 litres where does that milk go, its not like turning off a tap !! It leaks out for a few days until the cow starts to dry her self off, its natural for a dried off cow to leak milk.

You are right, I don't milk cows, but I have worked on a couple of dairy farms and have never seen this, have seen cows that wouldn't dry off though.
