I know there are many factors and maybe this year suited the plough but

1st wheat after grass yields between 7.5-10 tha following a three pass xpress and subsoil plus combi

2nd wheat with the above 7.5-8.0 t ha

2nd wheat after the plough and combi last drilled In October reading 10.5-12.5 t ha

All on strong land. . Interesting the ploughed land never actually stood water .
But certainly thinking about ploughing again as 1st choice not as 2nd .

Same old same old here. That’s what started us direct drilling. It worked for a bit then it didn’t.
Works fine here, on the shale.

Best option would be to DD the shales and SFI the clays.

This would mean accurately mapping the 50 or 60 different patches here in each of 100 or so different fields.

Just the kind of thing that the new technology's very good at.

It mostly works here on the sand but similarly we’ve too many patches of heavy clay even in Sandy fields.

Keeping my head down @bankrupt !
Yields are at or above long term averages, so bearing in mind the miserable 12 months many are still going through I thought it’d be bad taste to throw the Chalk yields around…
We're much luckier here than many (about 15% down on long term average) - our one and only very drought-prone field weighed in its best in 60 years.
