Advice please.
Never had a fixed chamber baler, always had variable, currently running a NH BR7060
What is the above baler like in straw? Will it pack it in as well as what we currently have? Not saying the New Holland is mega, just don’t want it to be any worse.
Aye, traded a very good krone xc150 variable chamber for a fixed Kuhn 3135
Kuhn packs more into a bale. That's verified over the weigh bridge for both grass and straw. Krone averaged 230kg in dry barley, Kuhn is over 250kg
A variable belt Kuhn or Mchale will make heavier 1.3m diameter straw bales than my fixed Kuhn. Been told 300kg is possible
When baling grass the Kuhn fixed chamber output per hour is a good bit higher than the variable krone, but it's very similar when in straw
A possible big disadvantage of fixed chamber straw bales are they need a lot more net, and explode when opened. You don't get to roll mine out far, but the bedding is deep!
If you're predominantly baling straw, I'd say a variable chamber makes a better bale that's easier handled (less likely to burst if the net gets ripped). There's arguably less to go wrong with a fixed chamber, and mine does make a very good solid bale of straw, but grass is where it excels
