Lanark texel sales, today.

The farm manager quoted on BBC as saying it is an obscene sum for a sheep but that's what it takes for the right genetics.
Well, maybe.

Was that the farm manager for one of the three buyers?
If so he was also on Sky news earlier saying the same and that they should be able to recoup the money spent on him in about a years time.
Wonder how he knows they will do that:unsure:

best average yet I think, awesome sale

It looked good on the video clips I saw, and yes - a very good average. Texels were £674 last year and would have been well over a grand this. A few well deserved pints for John and the team tonight, I'd say.

One ram at £350k adds a tidy bit to an average of course.;) What was the clearance rate, out of interest?

These are working sheep, so nothing that silly, but 100% clearance, and my pick (#11) ended up top texel.

100% between tups and gimmers

My apologies, I thought your comments were about the Lanark sale, the subject of thIs thread.;)

I would expect Fearn to have a more consistent trade, and a better clearance rate, and fair play to them.:)

@Highland Mule in the vid the auctioneer keeps going on about skins - as a novice when it comes to high end texels - what is he seeing or is it from an ebv fat score?

FYI - commentary wasn’t from the auctioneer but from a highly experienced stockman, (and ex NSA if I recall correctly)

I've often wondered how this type of tup would compare with a commercially-produced, grass-fed tup with, say, a top 10% index when put out with a cut of mule ewes each.
Probably similar, maybe better, maybe worse. He's just a sheep after all.

He'd take a while to toughen up if he's going out to chase upland ewes considering he's been fed for a sale.

There will be sheep that are just as good (maybe better) sold for 400 quid, or maybe less!
