My dogs not done much work over lambing and now there’s more work happening she’s getting tired really fast, it’s really noticeable after 15 mins running she goes lazy as hell... she’s been on same feed since last year really, she’s not fat, quite hollow really she eats anything in sight but doesn’t put weight on only 3 year old... does she just need time too come back into fitness? Different food? More food? Less food? Or do I get the vet out incase it’s something more sinister?

My first dog so not experienced enough too know much better to be honest... just used drive round like a stroker on the quad pipping the horn swearing like mad before she came

Dogs take about 6 weeks work to come for again.

I once had this problem with a dog that hadn't done much for a couple of months and as you say it just needed a bit of work to come back into fitness but if you're worried it's something more sinister get the vet involved, good dogs are few and far between.

More feed and has she been wormed I always increase the protein level in the feed when work increases
Was wormed about 3 months ago and her weight hasn’t really changed since before or after worming, will increase her feed a bit, roughly what should a collie with a medium work load be eating a day? Iv never actually weighed it just give nearly double what the spaniel has

She’s a good dog to be fair, does everything I want of her, not great at catching single sheep always wants too work the whole flock and she went off loading in the truck 6 months ago for some reason she’s started hiding from me when it’s loading up time which I can’t work out why... other than that she never puts a foot wrong

Is she on dry? Try upping protein and feeding ad lib.
My 9 year old collie still has more energy than he knows what to do with on a 22% protein feed.

A trip to the vet can't hurt if there's no weight gain.

Dry food, she’s has skinners musili mix, not sure on protein ect it’s just what the cocker and jack Russell have always had so she’s been having that she’s got loads of energy like a coiled spring and her outrun will be at 50mph but generally by the time we’ve got sheep too the pens she’s absolutely knackered

Reminds me of myself in my athletic hay day 👍

Able to run like the wind and tackle like a demon as a flanker on the rugby pitch💪

Puked up for years at near every start of season training night until the fitness level returned 🤮🙄😆

The absolute bästard.

Reminds me of Rugby Union forwards in their mid 20's when I was an ex-league playing back in my late 30s during preseason.......

I don’t work collie but lurchers similar size mine get a tin of cheap meat and about a kg of 24 percent protein biscuits when working a lot a day

"....it’s just what the cocker and jack Russell have always had....".

The pet food companies spend a fortune designing feeds that our pets like to eat but provide no sustenance. In other words, they eat and can't seem to get enough but there's no goodness in it and they don't put on weight. But then your cocker and terrier do well? Change to a "working dog" feed? Can you get green tripe and feed it raw?

For field trials, we wanted our dogs to go very fast for a limited time, say under 20 minutes. The trick to getting this performance is to never over work them. "Work is a privilege, not a duty". Leave the dog in the kennel and just take it out for a short while once a day to do a simple job, then back in the kennel. After a while, they will be screaming for work! I have seen young dogs ruined through being asked to do too much, too soon, just the same as working a young person too hard for too long, they sicken of it. The novelty of the job quickly evaporates and the enthusiasm is difficult to reignite.

Some of the cheap working dry feeds have my dogs looking better and working for longer than the expensive feeds at 5 times the price can usually tell by what’s coming out the other end aswell if it’s any good
