Macmillan cancer support meat free march

Lets also remember at at least 4 in 10 cancers (prob more) are from lifestyle incl obesity, smoking. pollution etc yes eating well is essential but looking at obesity in young children think they should be looking at educating parents.
I think the biggest thing we can do to improve our health is eat a lot less sugar, but that would mean eating less processed food, so none of the corporates are going to argue for that, in fact often if people give up meat, they eat more processed food

To be honest stuff these rich charities. They get plenty of money and spend over half your donation on PR and advertising. God only knows what they pay the COE and other staff. Its all big money business and Im not contributing. Look at the other charities like Motor Neuron and Parkinsons etc they dont go down the constant advertising and faddy rubbish. Id rather put my donations to real local charities.

Yes it’s unbelievable, I used to know of a woman who worked quite well up in oxfam or Hope house, I was shocked when I found out she regularly flew from Birmingham to Scotland for meetings and also earned 100k plus, I said “it’s supposed to be a charity” to which her husband replied “somebody has to run it and can’t be expected to do it for nothing” I said “all the people in their shops are voulenteers” he replied “good for them” and smiled![emoji35]

What a difficult situation. I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment on here but then I think 'what if the big C came knocking on my door?'

I'll admit I don't donate but if I did I wouldn't be sure quite what to do tbh.

I’ve just emailed them via the feedback section on their website. I referred to the probable health benefits of reducing the amount of processed red meat consumed, but also pointed out the amount of highly processed plant based food, and the unknown health implications of it. I pointed out the vegan ham and cheese toasty I witnessed being bought on Thursday, and challenged them to tell me what that person had actually eaten.

I gave up supporting macmillan nursing after mum became terminally ill with leukaemia, they were more interested in form filling for a blue badge( arrived three weeks after she died) and other available aid than the immediate supportive care she needed, even the special air bed for her end of life comfort arrived too late. Nothing surprises me with them.

I read somewhere that these big charities only donate something like 10-15% of their take to the actual cause they are representing . The rest is on expenses, salaries and corrupt in the 3rd world countries the aid is sent.

Sadly we had the same experience here when father died. He died on a bank holiday and the nursing cover to administer his pain relief was inadequate. They seem to employ people on big agency rates, not driven by compassion but by the hourly rate. The equipment for administering the morphine was here but they couldn't find anybody to come out and set it up, resulting in dad dying in distress which will live with us forever. Very very disapointed with them. If he had been an animal the vet would have come out.

The folks that deserve the praise are carers that do all the basic stuff that keep folk clean and comfortable in their final days. They aren't paid much but some do a fantastic job in very unpleasant circumstances. Could not fault them. Better than the people who float about with forms and clipboards and keep asking you how you feeling. Practicalities are what's important.

I'm really, really, conflicted by this.
They have supported a friend who has been dealing with lung cancer for the last year through a 'difficult' diagnoses.
But Macmillans bandwagon jumping / 'piggy backing' on the 1% vegan agenda crosses a very distinct line. As said above in another post, I just wish they hadn't ?

So they want people to drop meat and switch to the more expensive vegan alternatives ? How can people then afford to donate?

How about Macmillan free March? Got a certain ring to it as well?

My response:

As a countryman and livestock farmer and frequent supporter of your charity and the work you do, I am bitterly disappointed that the Trustees have agreed to get embroiled in a politically motivated Meat Free March campaign. Your presence in rural communities is very much respected and admired and I wonder if you have any idea how much hurt this type of public stunt will cause or the potential withdrawal of support for your good work. I sincerely hope you will take this down

They won't.

They probably did a consumer survey in an inner city and they said it was fine.
They have piled resources, sorry donations, into this campaign and wont drop it now.

Bandwagon is full to bursting!
