I gave up supporting macmillan nursing after mum became terminally ill with leukaemia, they were more interested in form filling for a blue badge( arrived three weeks after she died) and other available aid than the immediate supportive care she needed, even the special air bed for her end of life comfort arrived too late. Nothing surprises me with them.
My father was supported by a local charity here, “ Paul Sartori Foundation”, when he died of a non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Don’t recall Macmillan at all.

My response:

As a countryman and livestock farmer and frequent supporter of your charity and the work you do, I am bitterly disappointed that the Trustees have agreed to get embroiled in a politically motivated Meat Free March campaign. Your presence in rural communities is very much respected and admired and I wonder if you have any idea how much hurt this type of public stunt will cause or the potential withdrawal of support for your good work. I sincerely hope you will take this down

Nicely put. ?

Has anyone had a reponse from Macmillan yet.... I haven't. :(:(

Fit March would of been a good option.

My mother has had breast cancer twice never once has she received any help from any charity (she didnt need it) nor did they get the clipboard out asking her to fill in a lifestyle questionnaire on how she lives/diet/lifestyle so I am always perplexed how they collate data. Being born prewar she had many weight/dietary advantages. Fit as a flea. There are too many people who think donating to cancer research will mean there is help when you fall ill - its R&D. Research using chemicals and animals. Finding out the financial side of CR is very difficult. They are not transparent. Endless fundraising by CR - do they need the money? Its very hard to find out. When other charities are struggling to raise funds this business is enormous. http://dyingforacure.org/blogs/cancer-research-money-wasteful/

Huge amounts also go to the Donkey Sanctuary, especially bequests. Nothing particularly wrong with that, but it does make you question some people’s priorities.
No response from McMillan to my email either.

The solution to many problems isn't money, it's brains and luck and you can't buy those. Many problems and advances have been made when somebody had a lightbulb moment, nothing to do with amount spent on the problem. Bakelite was invented when somebody spilt a chemical on their cheese sandwich in the lab and noticed the result on the cheese, Nobody was spending any money to "find" it. Sadly I reckon it's the same with a lot of these charities.

I’m not just saying this because of this article but we were really disappointed with Macmillan when we lost both Dad in 2018 and MIL last year, they both died of cancer and we heard nothing from Macmillan despite the hospital stating they would help us. Mum was adamant at Dads funeral that all donations should go to the district nurses who were brilliant.

Same happened here with Dad in May 2018. Talked a good job at the hospital. Nowhere to be seen when needed. Probably because Dad departed over a bank holiday weekend, when nobody was available other than one very stressed nurse who seemed to be covering the whole county and couldn't get here when needed.

Nuns came and saw granny off. Excellent job.

Not heard anything back from MacMillan either.

@Muddyroads

I see what you mean about The Donkey Sanctuary getting huge amounts. According to their most recent financial report filed with the Charity Commission their income was £42,306,000 last year.

People love Donkeys

Donkeys have a history of being mistreated

My good lady donates to the Donkey Sanctuary in Devon

You should go to there HQ and main farm. Talk about no expense spared!!
Forget how many full time vets they employ but it’s over 20 I’ve been told.

I have been a regular donor to Macmillan.... I will not be donating anymore now and I will be telling them why.

Later. And done, I'll see what comes back.

Just became aware of this . I have done many fundraising auctions for the Macmillan organisation . I will do no more and am shortly going to email my local branch and tell them . Loads of farmers wives do fundraising for them around here . I will try to get some support.
I think if the objections are made locally then the local branch may be persuaded to take it up to the next level .

They sent the latest batch of drawing tickets today, I have returned them and asked to be removed from the mailing list. Said it was with great regret as they do a wonderful job and signed off by saying I hope the vegans make up the shortfall of donations from the farming community but I very much doubt they will.
It felt good but it also felt bad.

I think the biggest thing we can do to improve our health is eat a lot less sugar, but that would mean eating less processed food, so none of the corporates are going to argue for that, in fact often if people give up meat, they eat more processed food

Sugar and wheat even more so, every bit of wheat that we eat is highly processed. Is wheat even a food? Oats, rice, potatoes, meat, eggs, veg......you just cook them and eat them, don’t fancy a bowl of boiled wheat much tho.
