Macmillan cancer support meat free march

If anyone is looking for a worthy alternative, my sister was hit with lymphoma last year, and thankfully after some gruelling chemo has had the all clear, she had great support from these folk:

They made a real and tangible difference to her time in treatment.

I’m getting quite wary of the R&D fundraising, there’s just such vast sums involved, and wherever there is money in these amounts, there is corruption. Call me cyclical, but it’s not in the interests of a lot of these businesses to find a cure.

Dear David,

Thank you for getting in touch about our fundraising campaign, Meat Free March. We are sorry if it has caused upset as this was never our intention.

Macmillan’s sole purpose is to support people living with cancer to live life as fully as they can. Thousands of people living with cancer across the UK depend on our vital support services every day and we are only able to do this thanks to the ongoing generosity of our supporters.

Our supporters want a range of different and exciting ways to raise money for us, so we are constantly testing different campaigns and products to help people do this. However, if we believe it’s not the most effective use of our resources then we will always take the decision to stop an activity or event. For example, last year we trialled fundraising campaigns ‘Up All Night’ and ‘Milestone Moments’ but decided not to continue with them as they did not meet the targets we set.

Meat Free March is a one-month fundraiser aimed at those who enjoy meat, but who want to challenge themselves to go without it for a month to raise money for people with cancer. It’s not aimed at encouraging people to go meat free forever. The diet people follow is entirely a personal choice. Our only recommendation is that it’s balanced.

Meat Free March was first trialled at a small scale in 2019 and it yielded positive results for us, so we decided to repeat it in 2020.However, it has not brought in the number of registrations and won’t reach the projected income we expected so we will not be continuing to actively promote the event.

We can only be there for the growing number of people that urgently need our help thanks to the wide range of fundraising activities we offer. We are hugely grateful to every single person who raises money for us. Thanks to you, we can continue to be right there for people with cancer.

We really hope that this gives you the information you need and thank you again for letting us have your feedback.

Best wishes,

So will the "challenged" be indulging their egos and showing off how "caring" they are all over faceache, witter, and instabarf?
Sounds as cheap as that ice bucket thing some years ago. Marketing ego trips and backslapping.

Why don't people just give some money with one of their hands, and not let the other one know?

Damage is done, hopefully in time they can recover from it but people have long memories and lots of other options.

Had my response from Macmillan yesterday evening, exactly the same as that quoted above.

So many complaints, they just press send to everyone who has contacted them, and not actually addressed the content of the original email.

Hopefully the Corporate marketing gurus have learned a lesson...

Checked the spam folder, and lo and behold I have a response from them. Exactly what was posted earlier, so someone at Macmillan is getting good use out of the Ctrl C + Ctrl V keys on their laptop.

At least you got a response. It is to be expected I'm not sure how much meat they think people eat I probably only eat one portion a day. We need to exercise more an cut out processed food .

Cant think of a month that goes with processed free though

That’s what I was thinking - maybe ‘One Ingredient October’ - where the challenge would be to only buy, prepare and eat things from scratch- make your own bread, cook a bit of fresh meat to slice and put in sandwiches. More constructive than this current campaign, which I hope they’re finding is disastrous PR.

I’ve raised money for Macmillan with their challenge walks. I’ve emailed them to say they’ve burned their bridges so far as I’m concerned.
