Massey Ferguson 4370

Hi all,
What are your thoughts on Massey Fergusons 4370 with 24/24 power shuttle? Seem a nice looking tractor. How would they fare baling and pulling a 10ft mo/co? Do they give much trouble?

They are a glorified 188 with a 6cyl, powershuttle and splitter.
The 24x24 had too much packed into the 188 casting and was very prone to overheating, MF offered a mod, a bigger oil cooler and an extra hydraulic filter, if that was fitted in time it was a help.
They have a great gutsy engine, it will be well able for a 10' moco, just keep the rad and oil cooler clean.
The lift on the other hand is not fit for a mounted 10' moco.
They are a good lightweight tractor, but don't expect it to anything more than that.

They are a 4255 with a slightly beefed lift and a good 6cyl engine.

I drove one many many years back and really liked it. Was a very nimble tractor for the power.

Were on our second 1, both 12x12 manual shuttle first 1 done over 15000 slow counting hours of hard graft, can honestly say it was the most reliable tractor we ever owned, needed a new 4wd shaft,hitch,hydralic pump,1 set of brakes and mabe 3 or 4 clutches and couple of alternators and couple sets of batteries. Still started on the first turn over even when cold. Never ever leave her running with the shuttle in gear when not moving as this causes oil around plates to overheat resulting in warped plates

I drove one when it was brand new for a few months back around 2001 , or could have been 2002, was a comfortable yoke but 390t it replaced was better on hills. Main job was a keenan 200 diet feeder

What way are the hydraulics on them and lift are they good enough for tipping dump trailers and that kind of equipment?

Will work a 3 furrow reversible no probs and possibly a light 4 furrow

Doesnt have a heavy land wheel,no discs,no spring release and no vari width. It wouldnt touch it with these on it

I ploughed about 500 acres/year from 2000/2006 with a KV model E 16" 4F on a 4270 with the 18x6 gearbox. A nice light tractor, but longterm the lift and transaxle would not be up to it, fine when new, but the youngest 4370 is now 21 years old.

parts are the biggest problem now no support so when the stock has gone its gone go for a 54 no parts problems

Out of all the brands youd think the coventry masseys would be best bet for parts long term as lots of parts similar over all the years

gearbox parts are a big problem and various castings are a very big one front tombstones for the 6 cyl as an example
