MF3125 Syncro Crunch

Hi all,

I hear the dyna 6 box has issues over time. Anyone know roughly how much it would be to repair a MF3125 3rd gear crunch? Asking to see whether it’s worth buying one and doing the work or to spend more on a working machine?

Dynashift by the advert, I’m new to this type of machine and it will be my first working tractor purchase (previously 1960s kit)

Thanks, il chat to a few engineers who could do it for me.

my other option is a 6150that is difficult to get into gear, something about the gear selector needing new bushes.

gearbox out job £2000 roughly but when you go in a gearbox of a 25 year old tractor you could find more things worn also pinion into front axle will be buggered £1000

Hmm, perhaps I should go for something smaller then, not sure I’m ready for a project that daunting at first go. It needs 4 new tyres as well.

a 3125 dyna shift is a very capable tractor and one of the best i had drove, i replaced mine with a 6180, a bit handier but not as capable for the same hp. whats the work for it

To be honest it’s a toy, some light towing, maybe rotorvating, rolling and seeding. Might do the hedging too but mostly a toy and somehthing to tinker with

Not sure to be honest but the current owner describes it as difficult to get into gear as there is a problem with the gear linkage, needs re bushing. It’s a trade seller so I have a little faith in the honesty rather than a private individual.

6150 could just need the clutch bled, simple job or the linkage could be slightly siezed and wd40 would do it good enough but damage could be done inside. our 6180 had the cab mounting done and it effected the gear selection too but every so often the linkage would dry out and be stiff to find gears wd40 and away again, also had to bled the clutch every few months, suspect a seal somewhere had hardened

Any tractor of that age, unless bought from a genuine retirement sale, could be a massive money pit. No matter what brand or model. They are 30 to 40 year old machines that have probably had a good hard productive life and have been sold at least partly because of the problems that are admitted.
There are good ones out there and, who knows, at the right dead-low price, these may be OK even after doing the necessary repairs. Or maybe not.
