Molasses vs mag rolls for cattle

Rolls are great as it makes it real easy to check stock when they come up to feed.

Molasses is great, as it just needs the tank topping up once a week and usually, no bullying as available round the clock. It will work out more expensive IME, as the ewes will eat more, even with Urea content supposed to limit consumption. There are not many ewes that won't take it either, but rolls and buckets are more uncertain....

Just had the price from my supplier for molasses this time and it is back a bit. not sure on rolls, but I had some creep pellets a fortnight ago for a few tup lambs that want finishing and they are still expensive!! But that is bags as opposed to blown in.

I use it on cattle too... when feeling flush with cash! :) They do like it, don't they...

Used it a lot last year when feeding the sucklers wheat straw, as little grass fodder was made in the drought.
Been quoted £294 for promag and £335 for mag rolls. Last year we used 50 litres a day for 35 cows

I mix promol 40 and the mag one for cows at this time of year. The urea helps regulate them and it’s a good way to get some mag into them. The molasses complements the poor grass at this time of year and makes better use of it.

Used to mix bruised lights with HM minerals when there was an older generation with the time to pop round with the snacker , I think this was the most cost effective in product terms . Switched to pro mag for 4-5 years but the price is out of hand this time . Have been feeding free access minerals and have had to treat one cow that was down . Playing with fire but looking to switch to rolls now as past harvest and drilling .

Have you thought of mag blocks , we use them now , seem to work ok. Liquid we found worked but expensive.
Yes thought of mag blocks but it’s not just about getting mag into the cows it’s also supplementation as cows are out all winter
