I seemed to have killed my 2000 450 honda, looking at 2nd hand diesel mule or 2ndhand 420 honda, just need it for getting cow's and moving fencing around, would travel between our 2 farms once a week( 2 miles away), which I going to be the best longer term or more dairy farme proof

Quad all day long had 2 rangers, for about 3 years went back to Honda 500, build isn’t what it used to be but you barely put a spanner to them

Factor number 3: Mule has cabin, windows, doors, possibly even a heater. I'm also a wuss and try to avoid inclement weather.

Comfortable, roof and windscreen, kid friendly, much more carrying capacity and no trips to town to get petrol to rescue from furthest field

Haven’t got either but would like a UTV; the H&S aspect with staff being a major influence. Red diesel or electric would be far preferable to petrol. The prices seem ridiculous for notoriously soft machines though.

Health and safety wise mule.

Getting that group of stubborn dry cows to move quad bike.

We once demo'd a mule. Had one group of cows drove back to the farm to get the quad bike to move them. Bike remained on farm mule returned to dealer.

They don't have quite the same agility.

I bought a diesel utv last year, was put off the electric ones due to range, turns out I don't do even a 1/4 of the daily battery range, so will go electric when I chop this one in after warranty next year

Not trying to be holier than thou or any one for that matter, but a bag or bucket of cake is better than 10 mins of quad rage, been guilty many times myself

I got a 10 year old diesel UTV a month ago and so pleased with it!

Can put bits in the back e.g. fencing gear, bale wrap, tools, nothing falls out, superb!

Got a cab too.

Mines a cheapo Chinese, done 14 months here without a spanner required, getting cows, moving fences carrying fencing gear, 12v sprayer on roof, 12v seeder on back, pulled a 12ft stock trailer with calves between farms etc

Your neighbours might think you are feeling left out and going to get the white fluffies in if you turn up with a quad.

Can you put a reel and posts in off a utv? Don’t honestly know as I haven’t had one, with a quad it’s easy. Need more capacity, hitch the trailer on, one of the few bargains I‘ve ever bought, £100, from a former milker.

We've had a few Polaris Rangers. We take the drivers door off so you can drive along pulling pig tails. They're 0% and we just swap them when the warranty ends. Not a cheap job but it suits us on a fragmented farm with lots of roads.

Biggest factor is H&S. A staff member was hit on the road by a car overtaking on a bend doing a ton. If he was on a quad he'd be dead. He returned to work 8 months later. I'd never go back to a quad.

Ran a Suzuki carrier 4x4 In New Zealand, was great on the flat not sure it'll cope on the hills, jimny in local machinery dealers may go and see it, but mate has one and is rusting badly after two year's with cow muck and was a clean vehicle before he chopped off the back.

Goes anywhere. Diesel Vitara would be better on red.

Be very mindful of using the seatbelt in a utv. Lots of damage done in a roll over when you’ve got no door and flung out.
We’re quad bike. Used to be cheap 4x4. Like being able to turn in the cow track with a bike. Especially in a season like this.

Sell that one on marketplace and get another brand spanker from Rob.

Got utv and quad here. Quad every time for stock work and electric fencing.
Utv for lugging ability and (legal) passenger carrying.
