National shortages

All,

There is currently a huge shortage of raw plastic coming into the UK and as a knock on the following products are getting hard to get and set to become even worse:

Plastic drainage pipe
Ducting
Perforated drainage
Anything in plastic bags: cement, aggregate

Also the lack of cement in the country has made it now a hand to mouth situation.

Some nationwide suppliers are not taking concrete orders over certain metrage unless booked weeks in advance due to "cement rations" he put it. So concrete, PCC products including kerbs are very tricky at the moment.

Brett Martin products up 27% yesterday.

One of our NI based clients for whom we distribute pre-fabricated sheet metal products and for whom for the last 15 years we generally hold enough stock to fill a 5000 sq ft warehouse which is now needing less than 250 sq ft told me today "We're short of steel, we're short of people and we're short of every feckin' thing else as well".

One cement plant in the UK has shut down for a months maintenance and its left the top half of the country short .
Builders merchants are rationing what they have ,some have run out and dont know when they will get a delivery .

Been doing my house up and building a new farm yard for last 12 months, it has been a nightmare chasing supplies!
Managed to have enough all the way through but set off with the policy to always have all materials on site well in advance. I don't think it has go or will get any better for some time.

Ran out of cement lunchtime Saturday, so went to Wickes as I needed 2 or 3 bags to finish, they only had 4. I too three and the man after me had the last one. At least it was good stuff the previous bags from the local builders merchant was rubbish kept forming satsuma sized balls in the mixer. Never seen that in over 40 years.
