National shortages

Global steel prices are on the rise as are the raw materials for steel production. And due to many countries starting fiscal stimulus packages steel will be in high demand. Couple this with the UK steel industries current woes and the EU restricting exports to third countries, steel looks like being expensive and in short supply for the next couple of years.

Popped to local builders merchant today and noticed the rack they have for Riesser screws was empty ,,they said they had sold out of all the stock and won't be getting anymore till atleast next January and Timco fixings are the same .
Apparently nearly all screws are made in Malaysia.

I think these shortages have more to do with covid than anything else. MSM rarely report on the situation in other european countries, I bet the situation in some of the developing countries is dire, but its never reported. Seen some snippets of the situation in South Africa last week 😳😳😳😳😳.

Gives you an idea

I had elderly relatives that used to share there time between the UK and SA for decades (but we’re predominantly in SA). They sold up and left SA last summer, the security situation was getting serious then, its dire now.

It does make me wonder what its like in places like Brazil, Mexico, India, China and the like. What the economic fall out has been in these countries, there would have been no furlough there, and far more people living hand to mouth.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
