Needles

Does anyone know what size needles I need? I'm fed up of not having any and am going to do a bulk order online but I don't know what sizes are standard and don't want to end up with 100 needles meant for injecting mice!

Ideally two sizes, one for intramuscular and one for subcutaneous. What does the "g" mean as well

Thanks

I usually use 17G 3/4” for sheep. They go in well, 17G 1/2” for calcium. 13G is thicker than a 19G but the 19G can break easily and the 13G can be to large to break the skin easily

1" long for sheep here - an old vet once told me, "Inject deep into sheep."

No idea why, but he was a good vet so that's what I've always done.

16Gx1.5" for cattle here. only ever get the ones with an aluminium hub.

Useful for digging thorns out of your hand as well so always a stash at home in the draw.
Nail clippers for thorns, cut right around it. I thought I was bad but I won’t use a needle, you never know what germs they have. I only use metal hubs to, I find the plastic ones weak

¾" 18g for IM in most adult sheep, here (not large breeds). 1" for rams and bigger sheep, which tends to be 16g because that's also the ideal for subcut Calc and Mag ~ and worth keeping a stock of.

Lambs, ½" 18g for IM.

21g for subcut NSAIDs.
i find 3/4 by 18g perfect for sub cut in sheep, much longer increases the risk of bending etc i find.

I use 18G 1/2” lure lock needles for anything sub-cut, or 18G 1” for most im jabs. A pack of 12 is only a couple of quid from most ag merchants, or from AP Supplies.

I’ll not say how long they last or some on here will get upset no doubt.😂
you sound so tight i bet you sometimes try to skin farts as well :ROFLMAO:
