No I think that and solar thermal is all we need, don't like open fires and no need for a back up boilerAny reason for more than just ground source for heating and water ?
Some of the footings have 450mm of concrete in them on to rock so it is not going to move2ft 6 " on bed rock are they?
Local AuthoritiesDo you use Local Authority Building control or private Building inspector there in Scotland?
Just asking as I was speaking to a company down our way and he was telling me about people using both . I thought the ground source would be more than enough in a new build house ?No I think that and solar thermal is all we need, don't like open fires and no need for a back up boiler
Yes in a new build with all that insulation it should not take a lot to heat it, ask me again a few years time for the answer as i am unsure about all this but going by the ones we have looked at it works great, just need some better weather to get it wind & water tight before winter is here for realJust asking as I was speaking to a company down our way and he was telling me about people using both . How many meters of pipe are you digging in ? Or is it borehole ?Yes in a new build with all that insulation it should not take a lot to heat it, ask me again a few years time for the answer as i am unsure about all this but going by the ones we have looked at it works great, just need some better weather to get it wind & water tight before winter is here for real
in total about 350 meters of pipe in the ground in 1 meter deep runs , all laid in straight lines , hope to have start with this in the next couple of weeks, a good bit of work for the diggerHow many meters of pipe are you digging in ? Or is it borehole ?
A nice 4ft wide bucket and you'll get the pipe up one side and back down the other from what I was told ?in total about 350 meters of pipe in the ground in 1 meter deep runs , all laid in straight lines , hope to have start with this in the next couple of weeks, a good bit of work for the digger

Check with the GSHP guy before you install the pipework - I know of one that had to be extended because they put them in on a bed of sand - they need decent heat conduction, so should have been on wet soil/ clay or the likes. The sand acted as an insulator and reduced the effectiveness of the ground loop. Think I'd be adding a good dollop of well rotted dung if it was me!
do ground source heating pipes need to be put in level? or can they follow ground contours?
I'm guessing a slow running stream ?If you have a pond or stream available they can be used instead of a field normally with far less piping.
Would think faster would be better - if you can get more water flowing, there’s more heat to extract without freezing anything. Best would be a big loch that catches a lot of sun.I'm guessing a slow running stream ?
