Out of interest what sort of hammer do you use ? Metal shanked estwing by any chance ? Terrible for your arms/elbows ! Get something with a wooden handle, slot of building sites in the USA have banned steel handled hammers because of this

All steel shafted, everyone’s favourite is a 20oz jcb hammer that’s 40cm long, the 40cm long is the key. Maybe I should get a few wooden ones.
Got the odd fibreglass handled ones

If you get gout you get serious swelling in the joint, it's painful as fudge, I've known people be hospitalised with it.

what causes gout? Is it as straightforward as diet or is there other factors at play?

You gotta love some of those images involving gout/bursitis of the elbow. I would imagine you would be crawling off the ceiling with some of them let alone moaning about driving the combine.

I had an olecranon bursa, started as best I can recall by a black thorn injection.
It used to amuse the children but was actually not painful at all. Doctor said leave it to disperse, which it did, but took 2yrs to do so.

I only know its a build of uric acid crystals in joints I don't know why it happens as I haven't studied it in any detail.
It’s mainly a disease of good living and a modern western diet. Had a lecturer at uni who had it. Was really funny hearing him curse in welsh half way through a practical. Its mainly hands and feet that it effects. I would imagine a single elbow joint would be rare.

@ARW odd question maybe but do you have psoriasis?
I’ve got tennis elbow, I was working for a physiotherapist last week, it’s going to take a long time to heel without a proper rest, which is impossible until I start hedge cutting, so I just get on with it and rest when I can

I am suffering with same symptoms since last November, I did however go to my GP "first time in 11years" he confirmed it as tennis elbow, and prescribed IBUGEL and to rest it.... I have used the IBUGEL sparingly on the back of my elbow and the forearm, and its easier but far from right! I only had a phone call from my local hospitals physiotherapy department on Monday, and a nurse ask if I would do a few exercises whilst on the phone to her to confirm what the doctor had written down, so I did and she said she would put some exercises in the post and I was to follow them, when they get here I will post them up here..

For me it caused by dehydration. I have had it in my elbow, wrist and feet and knees. It only ever affects one parts at a time. The wrist was very painful. I used to get it a lot before i realized dehydration was the biggest cause. Drinking lots of water and peeing lots is a pain but its nothing compared to GOUT!!!!!! I am just about to start taking magnesium to help rehydrate me.

is that in tablet form? Wife has us on a skin spray, it’s funny stuff, really itchy initially which is supposedly a sign of deficiency but less itchy on following apps.

totally agree on dehydration, will be the cause of a lot health probs, especially where energy drinks, caffeine and cans of coke are the go to option.
