Rearing calves on milk

Evening everyone, I bought some heifer calves on Tuesday that are 4 to 6 weeks old. Have a poorly one today and had friend round and he’s gave it some alamycin and multivitamin and spoke vet after and said that’s ok but if gets worse to call them back. It’s stayed about same all day, temp was 40 but reduced a little now. It’s got a little touch off scour so gave it scour treatment instead off milk this evening. Just wondering how others treat calves that’s marginal off colour but not blowing or full out pneumonia
Thank you

Been sucking good from feeder. Milk this morning and then the scour powder stuff this evening. Have a dodgy thermometer so hope it’s giving true reading

I'd definitely get some anti-inflammatories into it with the temp. Hopefully just settling in after the move. Hold it back on the milk and let it get eager again.

Il give it another sachet off the scour mix in morning and then some milk in eveninf I think. How much metacam should I give ?

Don’t skimp on the antibiotic, and also give it anti inflammatory.
Personally I would give it 5ml Draxxin, but this is expensive.
I had a vet who gave the animal 4x (4ml per 10kg) the normal dose of Allamycin once. Did a good job. Obviously I’ve never done that since.

I think 1.5ml draxxin would be sufficient for a calve that age. 5ml would be 200kg!.

To the OP - high temp I would give Nuflor/Fenflor + Metacam.
Alamycin I find, one would have to be pretty quick on the draw, normally when just a Meatcam would suffice

Thanks all. No hard navel from what I can see. One thing never saw much in past that these ones have is there’s a lot of them with really runny eyes. To point side off cheek is constantly wet from it

That would normally indicate a fever. But not always admittedly. I’d be taking all temperatures personally. That’s if there isn’t hundreds to do.

No runny noses at all. The poorest one is improved today and others all drink their milk and seem in good spirits. But they do have a crackling cough some off them
