Apart from blenkiron who is obviously an arrogant dipstick, I honestly do think the RT top brass are decent folks who do really believe in the “brand”

Unfortunately its hated by farmers and not wanted by processors or retailers as there is no perceived added value. The general public by and large couldn’t care less as most buy on price, the more discerning will buy on the Union Jack but I never come across anyone yet who specifically looks for the RT logo or even knows what it looks like.

Im a member of the beef and arable schemes and couldn’t start to even draw or describe what the logo looks like without referring to a picture of it.

RT should have made a bigger effort to get farmers and retailers onside years ago but now I think it’s doomed to failure regardless.

Why bother being in RT then, if your customers are happy to give you the same price with and without? Plenty of us aren’t and accept a reduced customer base or a bit more work with selling.

I sell grain to feed mills. They won't accept my non RT stock but they bring boat loads of non RT stuff in. Everything they send out as feed to livestock farms is not RT certifiable or certified either

I think my gripe would be with the mills then, rather than RT. No doubt there are customers out there that don't need RT, but if you want to sell to the same as always, RT is the key to that door.

No my gripe is with RT (and NFU for stupidly giving away control of it)

No customer "needs" RT - its made up claptrap, evidenced by non RT imports. AIC ask for RT because RT offer them it all for free at the cost to the farmer

You might not be in RT, but just remember AHDB fund £250k ish to RT for marketing. Anyone who's an AHDB levy payer has helped pay for that advert (RT member or not).

If I wasn't a RT member, then I'd be pretty annoyed I'd helped fund an RT advert, particularly if the RT scheme meant I was receiving lower prices for my (inferior) non-assured produce/stock.

I'm quite happy for the industry bodies to collaborate if it means more sales overall.

I’ve said this before but if anyone wants to promote British agriculture they should look long and hard at the Coleman’s adverts for lamb and beef.
far better than a cartoon character wandering about with a shopping trolley whilst listening to a narrator wittering on about a ‘brand’ that doesn’t add value!

But isnt one of the main gripes about RT the fact that the shoppers don't know what it is ?
So what could be better than advertising it ?
Better they put the money into advertising rather than making up more rules and press ganging more farmers in to it for no need

The problem is not that shoppers don’t know what Red Tractor stands for, the problem is that the vast majority just don’t care, it’s the price of their food that they worry about & it should be the cost of production that we should worry about

So you don't think that advertising a product that is more expensive than its rivals is worth doing ? So why is so much spent on advertising when all we need is the price

They can advertise RT till there blue in the face but it won’t put more money in the farmers pocket

I don’t think the ads too bad. I mean compared to the Scottish talking donkey advertising mouthwash and the “perf with surf” lady, it’s fairly highbrow.

except you remembered both those adverts
Perf with Surf is a stupid but catchy stick in your head line
That’s the purpose of an advert
I’m afraid

remember Shake n Vac. Bet you can all still sing the song and do the dance after ?? 30 years

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
