Road legal "ATV with trailer"

Aside from actually registering with DVLA, I understand that there are certain requirements for an ATV to be considered as road legal, such as indicators, brake lights etc. But if you also want to go on the road with a trailer behind, presumably there are similar requirements for the trailer... particularly that the brake lights and indicators should be visible? Is there such a trailer? When I google this, the only thing I'm coming up with is a road legal trailer that is large enough to *carry* an ATV, but that's not what I'm looking for... I'm wondering if there is a road legal trailer *for* an ATV. Or maybe there are just "temporary" light kits that connect electrically to the ATV controls and attach behind the trailer?

No legal requirement for indicators, for daylight travel at least
Generally, or when towing a trailer? I thought that indicators was a requirement for the ATV itself, regardless of day/night? But if you then stick a trailer behind it, you can no longer see the indicators (or brake lights for that matter)?

Yep, just a number plate required to be road legal.
My quad came with full lights etc, I'm careful to keep them clean, but the number plate is broken.... therefore illegal! Interesting.

Also worth noting on your insurance if your going to be towing on the road with the atv, otherwise the trailer won't be covered in case on an incident.....don't ask me how I know! 😔

That's it? The rest is just "advisable"? Surely brake lights, indicators and rear-view mirrors would be a requirement? If a car or motorbike needs to have these to be legal then surely so would a quad? I'm really struggling to find anything definitive out there in t'web that makes this clear.

Motorcycle ( not sure about cars) can have a daytime mot , only need a brake light.
Again I am not sure but ag registered quad can be on road with just number plate , but I think there’s a speed restriction
Personally with the way folk drive these days I wouldn’t want to be doing a right turn on a main road without indicators, but that’s me and not the Law

Luckily I would only ever be within a 30 mph zone anyway.

Indeed. Trying to establish what is the law first, and then can make up my mind what I'd be comfortable with.

Aahh well I never knew that. Makes more sense now in the context of a quad.
Thing is , and it’s only my opinion, you need to watch out for everyone else trying to kill you ! So a set of cheap lights on the quad trailer to me is a no brainer ( bearing in mind just the other day one impatient so and so overtook me whilst I was about to turn right in a tractor)

never a truer word spoken.

Came fitted, as an extra, or integral to the quad itself?
Quad was bought with a farm easy ( I think) kit fitted
Hi/low beam , sidelights , rear and brake lights , horn and hazard lights
It says on the little console max legal road. Speed 20mph or 32 kph ( from memory)
We bought the quad second hand, with road kit already on

The requirements for daytime road use seem a lot less onerous than I thought, so it may be possible to look at some of the older, cheaper second hand quads that don’t claim to be road registered or ever used on a road. I would only ever be within a 30mph zone during daylight hours.

How quick/expensive is it to register such a quad with the dvla?

Another related question is whether you’re allowed to trundle along the road with a quad dragging a flail mower or sprayer attachment for example, rather than an actual trailer?

All ours have been registered. Exempt for tax within farm boundary. Number plate, lights, mirror, no indicators needed in daylight. Feel better about insurance as lots just go on the road without being registered.
Sheep trailer has no lights or plate but use hand signals or pull onto a verge when turning. Allowed to travel 1.5km between holdings without tax
