Would love to hear peoples expieriences, of the Rouge Sheep as thinking of buying in a ram soon. Hear they milk better than the Charollais and aren’t as wild or are more docile. Is this true ? Are they as prolific as a Charollais ?
Thin skinned and don’t stamp their progeny. Having said that some of the best commercial ewes we had were Rouge x Llanwennog. Brilliant ewes to cross to the Texel. Think they cross quite well with hill ewes, but you’d have to be told what they were. That’s a downside in my book, but each to their own.

When I was 14 (35 years ago) we went for a holiday in Western France. They did NOT allow the good Rouge to leave.

That seems to be the French way.

I've had Rouge X Mules for years. My current R X Mules are coming up for lambing and I'm dreading it as they are wild as hell.

My previous bunch of Rouge X Mules had far too many lambs and after their first year their bags were nearly on the floor so I had to help the lambs suckle. I'm on my own now and want an easier life, the Rouges will be in kebabs pretty soon.

No wonder you don't see many about.
