Thin skinned and don’t stamp their progeny. Having said that some of the best commercial ewes we had were Rouge x Llanwennog. Brilliant ewes to cross to the Texel. Think they cross quite well with hill ewes, but you’d have to be told what they were. That’s a downside in my book, but each to their own.Would love to hear peoples expieriences, of the Rouge Sheep as thinking of buying in a ram soon. Hear they milk better than the Charollais and aren’t as wild or are more docile. Is this true ? Are they as prolific as a Charollais ?
When I was 14 (35 years ago) we went for a holiday in Western France. They did NOT allow the good Rouge to leave.
