Now now, red lives matterCrikey. He’s a thing of….. err….. beauty?
What's the plan?
Going to try him over some Beltex/Texel ewes and keep the gimmers. What's the plan?
Quite popular over here in the Netherlands as well> rougetex.Going to try him over some Beltex/Texel ewes and keep the gimmers.
Now when I started using Rouge tups a few years back I’m sure I read somewhere that part of the reason why the Rouge never took off in the 80’s was that the breeders went down the line of trying to use it in competition with the BFL to breed a mule type sheep out of hill ewes? As such it lost its shape and fleshing due to maternal lines being followed? Then when they decided it wasn’t going to work it’s been a VERY long climb back to get what people will consider as a viable terminal tup. Not sure how true it is, but it sort of made sense. There are still a lot of Rouge out there with truly terrible shoulders. If I remember when the tups are next in I’ll draw my lads out and put a pic up.Quite popular over here in the Netherlands as well> rougetex.
Rouge is also used over hill sheep to produce a hardy, maternal and prolific ewe. Like a rouge mule.
I'd guess that once they are started they'll turn into good lambs.First Rouge lambs arrived this week. Not quite sure what to make of them, they need to muscle up as they grow. Very vigorous at birth and very easy lambed. Beltex shgs spit them out. Least wool cover I’ve seen but would probably be more out of eg mules. Would be ideal for lambing HoggsView attachment 1102504View attachment 1102505View attachment 1102506

Well they can’t be any worse than a Dutch spotted as a terminal!!The new must have breed, the black rouge, 2 days old, move over Dutch Spotted your time is upView attachment 1103075
Those are both gimmers, I can see your quite taken with them. Mates rates £500 each, get in at the bottom of the pyramidWell they can’t be any worse than a Dutch spotted as a terminal!!
At least they might be maternal that way.A mate of mine has a few sheep at the kennels to use to educate the hounds. He got gifted what he said was a pedigree DSS. He sent me a picture of the lambs his ewes had farted out the other day. Theyre f**king coloured zwartbles, if they'd had horns They could be bloody Jacobs! Turns out his pedigree tup is a G4 - DSS tup over a zwartble ewe.
They might be! They'd want to be! They'll be dead before they get chance to find out though. At least they might be maternal that way.
