It’s an aside, but why is the approval of the Oxford vaccine taking so long?
Would the creators of the vaccine really have submitted it for review if it wasn’t ready? Isn’t there a danger of losing a critical fortnight for nothing more than procedure? Might it not be prudent to begin vaccination of those most at risk or even volunteers who are willing to take the risk now before the review is complete?

I haven't read much on it but wasn't it initially thought to be only 60% effective, apart from a small group who had a different amount of the first dose which had a better result?
Perhaps they're needing more time to study data and run more tests?

Mock exams start on the 11th Jan , if they miss these & things get worse & they miss their main exams it's going to be really difficult to grade them .
You’d hope the main exams would going ahead in May June. If we are still in deep restrictions then it will be back to horse and carts.

you are looking at a lot more than 6 weeks to get a significant amount of people vaccinated ...... doubt I will see a needle this year

kids should definitely go back to school - education is essential and parents need to work

just keep kids well away from higher risk individuals....... ie common sense

How will we pay for out wonderful NHS if there is no economy left ?

there has to be a balance

i think we will all go tier 4 in the new year however, its winter, all flu gets worse in winter
I agree - we will all be in Tier 4 shortly. Immunising 60m or so is a monumental task! “Normal” could well take until 2022 as things stand at the moment. Feel sympathy for all entertainment and hospitality business. They are having it really rough.

Lives are more important than mock grades
Lives are more important than travelling. Yet the local population here doubled over Christmas? People travelling the length of the country even though their supposed to be in lock down but that's ok, let's gamble our childrens future so adults can get on with their lives.
By all means restrict other years but those in their final year already have had disruption to their education.

And when that isn't possible?
Correct. Only my brother actually has kids but they make some sort of unavoidable contact with every member of the family, including myself, my wife, and then my elderly mother through us indirectly. Schools are an extremely efficient way of seeding the virus right through all age groups. Working Parents can’t pick them up themselves or get them home safely every day without some reliance on other family members.

Tier 4 is old news Clive.

The government have already moved onto introducing Tier 5 across the UK..

There will be nothing left if they lockdown under Tier 5 ( like they said they were going to do under Tier 4 ) until 20 million people have been vaccinated as that will take this useless lot at least 12 months to carry out!

Only reason the Government have not started a full on ,lockdown under tier 5 yet is because they are waiting for the Oxford vaccine to be approved..

Reason the Oxford vaccine has not yet been approved is because they were caught out a few weeks ago making up the figures for the vaccine!

Also if the situation in the hospitals is so bad then why are the Gov not using the nightingale hospitals or like they are still dismantling some of them?

Far too many NHS staff are off sick currently that should be at work. ( at least 1 in 10 is off sick currently )

Same situation in local villages here. Thanks to the holiday cottage and second home economy we have had loads of visitors from London and the south and village street jammed with visitor cars yesterday. Does anybody give one?

That's the situation here, my mother lives with us and we have another VOAP friend that we help out too, neither of them have anyone else near who could care for them... We have children, they have to be in contact with us and we have to be in contact with the elderly...

In many households things simply aren't as simple as many might think, or hope.. :(

Nope the government announce this now (today) and organise an overseen teacher assessment. There has been far too much disruption already with more to come to have even education and chances for all students entering public exams. But these stubborn, stupid Tories just obsseesed with how tough they look ot the blue rinse brigade will not. Hey ho. Williamson will be made to look an even bigger fool come May.

Anyway I have daughter with finals this year been busy since 12 doing a essay - just fed her. She has nt yet heard from Bath Uni what to do. But Bath Uni keep on taking the cash and her landlord hasn't yet refused my direct debit for the rent.

Well Rees Mogg told Boris it was straighforward - everyone should hire a marquee and put the kids in with Nanny. SImples.

I don’t know but if they wait much longer they won’t need the vaccine at all. Too late for some, herd immunity through natural exposure for the rest.

The longer this goes on the less compliance you will get from the general public.

Esp when no end of high ranking MPs/ the PM/ people like Cummins etc break the rules left right and centre and get away with it and the Gov spout lies and U turns on an almost daily basis to boot!

Even with a vaccine they wont say when or if they will let normal life resume so its hardly surprising that people have had enough and just want to get on with life!

The UK was put into lockdown 280 days ago and things are a bigger mess today than all those months ago!
