Simmental AI bull

Hi, I’ve 3 pure heifers I’m planning to AI next summer, looking for advice on the best AI bull to use. Darker red, well block coloured, thicker set, medium to longer coat and curl on the head, doesn’t matter if it’s polled or not, doesn’t need to be sexed semen.

Skerrington Iceman has a cracking shape, Blackford Galaxy looks a correct lad, Clonagh Lucky Explorer looks a cracker.

Any thoughts or prices known?

You never know. Stores for a few folks.
Thanks, I’ll speak with him eventually as he’ll do the insemination.
At the moment I’m just trying to get a bit of advice from the folk that have used the modern top bulls, see how it went, see what’s available and at what price.

Hope you get the info you seek. I like you preferences, always think the darker coloured are fleshier and hardier longer lasting. Personaly would prefer polled. Are they not easier calving lines. Maybe slightly lighter boned but overall better mbr. Look forward to seeing the calves.

I've used Samson PP and I've sold some to a few others.
They've all calved easily so far, I'll use him again on heifers.

I’ve only seen one picture of him but looks a bit small on the backend, the heifers will be 24 months before being AI’d.

Wonder why there’s 7.4% still births?
Seems awfully high or is there just a tiny number overall recorded with AI sires.

I've wondered that myself and I did have reservations based on that before I used him. I have always meant to ask about that.

I've noticed quite high mortality % on a lot of foreign bulls, many of which have very good calving scores.
Is it maybe the % of still births taken from total number of losses during the calving process? So from all losses only 7.4 are still born / mummified type? Seems hell of a high otherwise.

Is there a reason for A.I.ing at 24 months? Could you A.I them in February, get something easier calving for there first calf. Being simmentals they should handle calving at 2. If the heifer losses a calf when calving at 3 that's some expense to deal with. Where as calving at 2 you can give them another chance.
I've just ordered some wolfstar kolisi from cogent for using on heifers or on cows that have had a difficult calving/c-section.

It’s just a space issue, would have calved them younger If possible. I have to work full time off farm, so run a tight ship for calving/lambing period, will be synchronising them for AI.
