Sludge instead of DAP under maize

I've got a pile of sludge in my field which will be drilled with maize at a later date
Usually plough my maize ground but don't want to put the P out of the way of the growing plant, will put some double top under the seed with the drill, so will probably use the trio to get a seedbed

Logical thinking or being stupid????

What are p levels like ?
Index 3,
This field is usually maize every other year as it is along side another useful field for growing maize,,,,,,,, easier ground to get on than our usual red marl stuff and the block of land isn't to badly blighted with Roe and Newcastle supporters
This land usually has had FYM spread and 110 kg of DAP

Loads of maize is established with a trio. Put the sludge on and go for it. Just don't drill early if you aren't going to sow with DAP down the spout. I personally don't like maize with no DAP. Cut the rate back a sniff?

DAP is £850 now vs £450? last year. At 110kg/ha that's still only an extra £17/ac spend vs last year.

If you spread biosolids I think you're probably not supposed to FYM or DAP so if your already at index 3 I would stick with what you know works. There's not many crops that don't thrive with those magic 6 letters of DAP and FYM.

Just drop the rate back to 40kg/acre. A one year holiday of sorts can't hurt.

From the danish research I read they’re suggesting lower rates of DAP down the pipe and a humic and fulvic acid blend to get the same results. According to my agronomist we have similar growing conditions to Denmark.

I'm from other side of the pond in Canada, here we like to put p down near the seed, helps with cool springs get the plant going quick. And overcomes the soil tying up p when it's it's in a concentrated band.
Not sure all the lingo from your area as to index 3 etc.. Here we have a lot of low p and k ground, the corn/maize really benefits to both the p&k being in a band but needs to be away from seed if it has k for the salt injury, 2x2 inches from seed.
Even with manure or sludge nice to have that boost

I've always put DAP just under the seed but with fert doing daft things this year I'm considering my options 🙄

Chalk soils here and p index of 3 plus. I haven’t used Dap for years, don’t like pushing the p index more. Plenty of cattle slurry/fym goes under the crop. I have grown maize with no starter fertiliser but in the last couple of years I’ve used a NS compound giving 50kg N/Ha which I think has worked well.

Last year was the 1st I’ve not ploughed an acre of maize, using a trio like machine. Very pleased with the results and planning to do the same again.
