Steel for digger pins?

I have a quick hitch to fit on my NH digger.
So I need some new pins to do the hitch and a few buckets too.

They are 45mm, planning to buy some round bar and make some, so the question is do I need to source a harder steel for that job? Or is ordinary round bar stock ok?

Or does anybody have a good source of pins?

Unless you’re going to use them every day then normal Mild steel bar will do in the buckets but get proper pins for the hitch to digger unless your originals one will do. JCB use 45mm pins aswell therefore they’re readily available. You could case harden the pins aswell if you wanted

Digbits will get you 45mm pins next day if you ring them. My cat 307 uses 45mm ones and fitted one of their quick hitched earlier in the year.

Phillips in Elgin will knock up what you need, they’ve done some pins and collars for our loadall headstock before.
EN8 or EN16 bright bar would be the stuff, I bet by the time you buy the material and bugger about trying to drill holes through them you’ll be glad you just bought them in...

Wonderful stuff.

A million years ago, we bought a Blench dutch harrow at the Royal, off the man himself. Solid Ag engineering, but the tines had a very short life. I priced up a new set and then went and saw the local steel stockholders who recommended and cut me 300mm lengths of EN8 to use replacements. Still as straight now as then, and hardly any wear. :)

Admittedly, it just gets wheeled out of the nettles for an emergency now only....
