If he thinks he can make money buying straw and baking and selling it he is a mug ?
Unless the straw is for next to nothing there is nothing in it best money we made was to sell all the balers and chaser
If you were baking it that’s where you may have gone wrong ???

Have you had no rain in the last two days?

Hardly a drop, had a brief half hour shower 2 days ago that was dried up again few hours later but that is about it since early mid March, eastly winds and hot sunshine is limiting growth, silage crops will be well down unless we get rain soon. May is looking wet though on the long range forecast.

Mostly I just bale for customers but I do sell some. And financially I'd say I'm doing pretty well thanks for the concern. Not bad for a man and his dad who are 'just cowboys' according to some of the big boys. Never advertise and seem to be busy enough all year around with various jobs.

Its easy to get heavy bales if you bale it damp
If i took the pressure up to500kg for a 120-90
There would be strings pinging all over the place
Sorry but you are wrong . My main suplier never bales under 500 kg . Thats with a hd baler mind . They would read no higher than 13% and he bales a hell of a lot , that straw on the ticket would be 10%

I find they run better at high load. Strings come off knotters better. More tension on everything.
Used to be a dream to get out of a thin barley crop (not that you probably see many of those up there) and into some wheat, you need the flakes going through to push the knots of the billhooks well. Was like night and day.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
