What is the going rate for barley and wheat straw in the swath? South lincs area
Thanks.

Appears very variable. We sold some months ago at £65/acre in the swath but the local agents are ringing around quoting buyers at £40/acre. If it’s not £50 and above in the swath we will chop as it’s not worth the hassle. So much for the livestock boys helping the arable boys! We helped them last year but we won’t do it again that’s for sure.

Is it not better just to flog the stuff by the acre and get shot of it? No worry about the baler man and his settings or weighing lorries. Just price and go? I'd insist the OSR straw was taken mind. Do a deal with a few local folk and heavy or light crops one year to the next will even out?

I’ve allways sold by the acre.current chap don’t want it as he has a lot left from last year.ive had offers for it from people I don’t know and biggest worry is not clearing instantly to get land ready for rape and also not paying.had a local straw dealer a few years ago who done everything he was told not to do then took a year to pay after court action threatened.
