Apologys of this has already been covered but what sort of rate are people charging/paying for hedge cutting? "Normal" flailing (not buzz bar) not long reach etc, nice and local, 1 years growth.

I'm fairly reliably told there's a chap near to me that is only charging £14/hr inc fuel!!! That's ballsing it up for anybody else. I'm trying to figure out a fair rate to go out at so I'm not doing myself short but not cocking the job up for people who have spent a lot on kit (I want to use my old pa35 to begin with, abit of a toy but all bought and paid for)

i charge £14 just for my own time driving someone elses machine!!!

when i started out with the trimmer in 2006 i was on £18/hr even then, admittedly i can do it cheaper than most round here as everything is long paid for, so i havent got monthly payments to worry about

£24/ hour.... madness when i charge £28/ hr for man and tractor!!!

Hedgecutting is generally less than tractor and driver. The tractor is running at 1000-1100 revs so not using much diesel, minimal road work so you're not scrubbing the tyres, minimal clutch wear, linkage/hitch wear and it's usually a fill in job when you can't do more important work.

Very true, and something not generally taken into account when working out rates, trouble is a modern tractor will still clock the hours just the same.

Most around here £24-£28 hr.
One chap running two older well maintained setups all paid for he will be making good money at these so called stupid rates! It makes me laugh that someone with all new gear moans they can't compete, well no s#@t your costs are too high!

Looks like this thread is coming to a different conclusion to the normal, must have £35/hr or not bother outcome. It is all about cost of what you are using,if you are sitting in a 6150r and 20k hedger you will need £35/hr,but most farmers are having to look at all costs even harder than usual,so you may not be very busy.

im running a 1594 and a late 80s bomford, and i wouldnt even start it up for less than £30/hr. I can drive someone elses machine at £14/hr, and i reckon my machine on its own is still worth the remaining £16/hr without a driver

tractor runs at 1200rpm, uses 5-7 gallons in a 10 hour shift, consumables are blades, windows, hydraulic pipes and punctures

you only need one big breakage and you have worked the whole day for f all.
