Well there is some downsides to a smaller animal, as with everything!
You won’t be winning any rosettes, your neighbours won’t be very impressed and you’re not going to get your name in the market report. Oh and you won’t be getting any free gifts from your feed merchant ;)
Or a very good price , no one wants short fat dumpy cattle.

A very good price is great as long as it doesn’t cost a fortune to get there. Which in my situation it would, I’m sure there’s a place for a larger animal but it’s not with me.
And yes you’re right, the market currently wants a larger animal, I don’t fully understand why but that’s the way it is.

On the tb1 it tb4 thing tb1 cattle can be safer than buying tb4 ones because you know the status of the herd fairly recently. A lot can happen in 4 years if the herd isn't tested and it happens to be there....
In Wales we have low, intermediate and high risk areas. You don't have to pre movement test animals from a low risk area into intermediate or high risk area. A lot of tb comes into these areas from the low risk areas and no one finds them till the next annual herd test...

Yes, I take you point but it's more about the hassle factor. And I REALLY don't want to be the one that brings TB into the district by doing something which is heavily advised against.

Is moving cattle from a low risk into TB4 without testing possible too?
