Does anyone know of anyone breeding traditional style Angus cattle? Not specifically the native lines but the short legged, deep body hardy type….if such a thing exists in this part of the world anymore

I think these would be worth a look but in Worcestershire so I assume TB1. If you find any other herds matching your description in TB4 areas, let us know.

Thanks for the replies so far. What I’m after is a small group of heifers with the intention of Ai-ing them using bulls that have traits suitable for my system. After visiting some Nz Angus breeders I was left thinking their breeding philosophy made a huge amount of sense. I’ve found Angus bulls too large and the offspring not able to maintain condition, so I want to start with a female that’s already at least half way in the direction that I want to go.

This is all theory so far though! After a number of years thinking about it I thought I’d at least put some feelers out and see what might be possible

What is wrong with the bigger commercial ones. I find the little lumpy ones don't get enough weight and turn to fat!!
For yourself speaking as a commercial finisher, I'm sure that you're right. Increasing numbers running cattle on lower input systems though and need a thrifty cow in particular. I am feeling my way with a mob/regenerative grazing approach and I reckon I've the right cattle for the job with my wee traditional Herefords.
