Trailed sprayers stability?

How stable are trailed sprayers? Particularly Chafers.

Currently running a demount and have managed everything with it. Tank sits up pretty high behind cab on fastrac. Obviously plan loads so tank nearly empty when spraying across steep bits.

My Guardian is very stable I would say. Had to turn on a pretty steep slope and it was absolutely fine, even on rowcrops.
I would say it’s more stable than my previous Berthoud racer.

still need to be sensible though, keep booms low etc

depends on brand / model i think ? some have a bad reputation for falling over it’s fair to say

only trailed i can comment on is our Horsch which feels very stable with low cog - much more stable than the self prop it replaced

worst I drove was a Fastrac demount that was frankly terrifying around a traffic island !

Your sprayer is likely to be more stable than your self prop as you leave the wide tyres on full time. Would it be as stable with row crops?

It's a fastrac and demount I use at moment. As you say junctions and traffic islands can be butt clenching moment when full.

Stick them out to 80”+ track width and they should be fine up to 36m. Chafer tanks sit quite low so should be okay just watch their boom height control it’s variable

Used to spray a neighbours very steep farm and our own with a case trailed . Between us another neighbour has a front and rear Amazone set up that imo looks less stable . Now spray just our own place with a trailed knight and really like it. Both trailed sprayers have tracking drawbar with lower arm linkage rather than hook or pin drawbar . This has to be more stable imo , they also give more clearance.

Looked at new sprayers when I worked with neighbour and knight was top of my wish list and why I found a 2nd hand one for myself when time came . I think at the time they did British builds and Hungarian(?) . The Hungarian was cheaper and I preferred it but they can't change the build specs on the Hungarian machine , so couldn't offer linkage mounting. Wallace of kelso in Dundee had said they could look at adding one over here but we never took it any further .

I'm pretty sure them and amphillips offer trailed demos so maybe worth asking ?

I spray everything with a trailed sprayer on some fairly steep ground. Had 2 Gem trailed sprayer because of there low COG and now have a GMR as it is very similar to GEM design.

From GMR website, this is a 2015 machine for sale. See how low the tank is compared to others.

While browsing one of the agricultural salvage auction sites the other week I would say not that stable as the number of trailed sprayers on there was surprising

Whats up with your current rig. Just getting too old?
Nothing really! Its 23 years old now. Would just rather upgrade it before it starts giving bother.

I'd like things like auto shut off. Rate control, area meter. Automatic tank fill for part loads. Booms that lift on one side. Go slightly wider booms, annoys me overlapping a half run with 4m drill.

Only got a pressure gauge and tractors forward speed on current sprayer.

My crops wouldn't yield any better with a newer sprayer.

I do a bit of contracting too and could potentially pick up more work with a more modern machine and wider booms.

Nothing wrong with tractor, but apparently theres quite a big difference in a demount for a 2170 and 4220. I should probably just buy a new one if next one does 23 years too. Would see me out!

row crops would be no taller but probably slightly less stable with lower width, its so stable though I can’t imagine it being a problem
