China already owns a large chunk of that country. You'd be happy with them building new islands off the coast of Australia and telling the world it was Chinese territory then?

I'm not missing any points I've said very clearly that China is more defensive and gets involved with conflicts a lot less than America. All countries are free to use international waters. You seem to be missing that point or are you saying that shouldn't be allowed? China is more defensive, oh, so that is your excuse for building islands in territory that clearly is not theirs?
Just adopting BS views for kicks, but you have form for this.
The Taiwan thing seems to be a complicated relationship, perhaps similar to Russia Ukraine?China have a stated aim to take control of Taiwan, they make overtime military threats, of course their playing war games at sea in international waters is perfectly legal but only a fool wouldn't think it's a message to Taiwan, the USA have offered support, while some may say that Taiwan should be part of china the people who live don't want that, they have a right to decide just as the residents of any country does
Too busy building the great big wall in the Irish Sea. Can’t be in two places at the same time..Is it the USA who are building Islands in the middle of the ocean and trying to tell folk it's their part of the sea?
Thought not.
Uncle SAM, domestic chips or not, will never want China to take Taiwans chip manufacturing expertise and facilities. The majority of the world, including the US and UK do not recognise Taiwan as an independent state. Once the chip manufacturing gets up to speed in the US, leaving them less dependent on Taiwan, it will be interesting to see if their presence in the South China Sea decreases.
Even if Taiwan resolves itself peacefully there will quickly be another reason why the US military needs to spend more and other countries will too.The majority of the world, including the US and UK do not recognise Taiwan as an independent state.
