I've been told to steer clear of vag 1.6 diesels due to injector failures.
Anyone run one of these ? How economical are they to run, we need a second car and one of these fits the bill ! Real world views appreciated

Brother had a Jetta and it was regularly doing 70 mpg on a decent roadAnyone run one of these ? How economical are they to run, we need a second car and one of these fits the bill ! Real world views appreciated
Injectors fail around 130,000 to 150,000 miles. If one goes you are stranded. RAC now carry them so not a complete disaster. IF and IF your 1.6 diesel has been maintained properly then the injectors will have been changed within this milage bracket.I've been told to steer clear of vag 1.6 diesels due to injector failures.
Brother was running a Skoda Octavia 1.6d that was one by one failing it's injectors at much lower milage than 100kInjectors fail around 130,000 to 150,000 miles. If one goes you are stranded. If as above then you can add another 130,000 to 150,000 miles to the vehicle.
Don’t be put off by this BUT the replacement of all four is slightly in excess of £1k so make sure you buy cheap!
MORE importantly most are non ULEZ compliant so really they should all be scrapped
Just parted with a very tidy 1.6 TDI for just that

2 litre is nearly bomb proof. EGR, ad blue and dpf are an issue if it’s not been driven properly but nothing much. Are these issues exclusive to the 1.6?
Currently looking at a couple of (older) Tiguans with the 2litre diesel
This, I would stay well away! Local garages would even go as far as saying that the Renault 1.5 diesel in the Quashqai and A class Merc would be better and they’re a disaster!! We have a Caddy people carrier at work, it’s been recovered twice and now has had 4 injectors and has just done 45k!!I've been told to steer clear of vag 1.6 diesels due to injector failures.

Drive them hard and they’ll keep on going. I give my A4 with a towbar a blast with caravan or loaded trailer. The A3 just has to have a few blasts here and there!!!That's what I thought but always better checking
Got a 2013 with 130k miles on it now. Nice to drive and very economical. Average 65mpg without trying, 50 if ragging it. Best I've ever done is 96mpg but was driving like an absolute granny. Heating and air con are troublesome and currently there is an electrical problem with the boot catch so have to load everything via the back seats.Anyone run one of these ?
