Welsh Assembly Senedd hits Tourism hard

Scotland.

Anyway reading the local rag this afternoon it looks like numbers are down about 30% on last year as the hoardes head back to Benidorm so this conversationā€™s probably already moot šŸ˜‚
I think its the same here as last year on the nc500 route. Traffic is hellish and so is some of the behaviour. Pre covid we were busy with tourist but its crazy now and there a lot more undesirables on the scene, abandoned tents, tearing down fences to burn in camp fires and sh!tting wherever.

And another thing.........there's a sweet spot IMO, renting out 6 months over the summer at high rents, no heating costs = nice little earner. Faffing about renting in the dead of winter for low rents and high heating costs = waste of time. Another source of income fudged up by lefties. Renting out property full time has also been scuppered by new rules and regs in favour of tenants.

I'm not joking about the bulldozer. If it weren't part of the farm complex, I'd sell it off and let some other mug try and make a living out of it.
unfortunately we have an administration in Cardiff, that want to control every part of life, labour know best! You only have to think of the lockdown and the rules about what you were allowed to buy in the supermarkets, they want to interfere and micromanage everything - I suppose Mark Drakeford was a social worker, and social workers tend to victim blame and manage everything.

One or two councils in North Norfolk are jumping on holiday lets. This is a rural area where traditional industries are tourism, fishing and agriculture in no particular order. Employment in agriculture has fallen and hundreds of tied dwellings have been sold or let to holidaymakers. The fishing industry has suffered a big decline over the years and fishermen rely heavily on tourism to supplement their income with boat trips for various purposes and support of local catering.
To restrict tourism is a big shot in the foot because it provides employment where it was otherwise in decline. Most of these holiday lets are occupied for upwards of 250 days per year, they do not pose the same problems as second homes or retirement homes. They provide direct and indirect employment.
Beware biting off the hand that feeds you.

Crazy amounts; they don't need that much because Westminster and Cardiff have an obligation to fund any emergencies. Conwy and Anglesey have it about right, enough for an immediate problem and no more. All the while the 'public servants' - Ha! - are getting their lovely pay rises at our expense and putting up taxes and reducing many 'services'.

The top 'communities' 'director' (whatever the hell that means) at Carmarthen County Council is getting paid Ā£5 k more than Liz Truss is as PM. The directors for environment, corporate and children's services all get Ā£15k less than that, and are on the same pittance of Ā£147k p.a. as Mark Drakeford, Welsh FM.

Is there anybody who thinks this can in any way be justified?

I think you are under the misapprehension that the Council is there is serve you, the ratepayer, however, it is really there, to provide a career progression to the top echelon of it's employees, and allow them to continue to enjoy the lifestyle they have become accustomed to. Am I right in thinking maybe five years ago, the highest paid Council Chief Exec was in Pembrokeshire?
