Presently run a Discovery 2 as farm vehicle/run around. Used for towing, ferrying workers/family about, carrying tools, dog you get the picture. Now needs updating, got the dilemma finding something for carrying capacity, security, towing and off road ability and not looking out of place in golf club car park. LR Discovery is good all rounded but not the best for some of requirements and situations have changed during my 14 years of owning it, however just can't see any other alternatives to that type of vehicle. Had a pick up once got fed up with climbing in the back to retrieve things that slid to the front. 4x4 van looks to be an option. Any comments about Discovery Sport?

There’s one in the family. I’m not a huge fan and I don’t think it would be an upgrade from Disco 2. If you can cope with its shortcomings (tow weight, size, lack of chassis), then also look at the others similar. Late Mk2 Xtrail might be tempting (bigger boot, with no carpets in it to hold dirt); X3 (seriously impressed with it but auto only); Mazda CX5; Honda; Kia etc. etc.

I always fancied a Nissan Pathfinder but suspect they will all have chassis rot by now. Shame as seemed a good competitor to the pickup & canopy.

Get a sliding tray put in the pick-up, problem sorted. Very useful if you have a canopy when clambering is tough...

How about something like the electricity board vehicles with the lockable aluminium storage on the outside of the vehicle and general storage in the usual part of the vehicle

I keep a shepherd’s crook in the back of my p/u. You can hook most things and pull them to the door👍

How much weight are you wanting to tow?
This makes a huge difference to what suggestions the collective can make.
