What is the future for Northern Ireland

The EC BANK ensured that ROI. would be in a state of absolute penury for a generation ... Thereby distancing any possible closer union of the north and south ... thoughts on ECB please. jtt.

The only penury arises from a massive property bubble and subsequent bust, which saw the country thrive for a time on entirely unsustainable tradesman's wages and property speculation. When brickies were clearing up to a grand a week in Dublin, we knew something had to be wrong.

Northern Ireland will prosper along with the rest of the UK, the ulster first minister has accepted the result despite voting the opposite way unlike the Scottish nasty party!:'(

Her deputy (co equal) on the other hand.

Yes, he was / is remain. But so too were / are all other party leaders both unionist and nationalist.
Whatever about the emotional argument it seems really hard to rationalise Foster's economic leave position.
The money transfer from both EU and London more than any other area in the UK is absolutely fundamental to the NI economy.

In Brexit era, I think that income stream looks like being hit very very hard indeed. Tory government in London with reasonable majority in the house and not needing Ms. Foster's votes will very quickly squeeze the money transfer.

, we had a large extension put on to our community center all EU funded, what would the chances be of a Tory government doing that ,what people here have to understand is it doesn't matter what your political stance is , as far as the English are concerned we are all sponging paddy's ,

It is incumbent on the people on the hill to be more imaginative about progressing NI rather than simply relying on going to London with the begging bowl out every time of political "crisis/staged row etc". NI receives a level of public spending per head higher than the rest/most of the UK.

NI as a whole was always going to be a remain vote, it was just a question of how big the vote would be, Surprisingly as it turned out the remain vote was not as high as predicted.

The regional variation is very much being over-egged for personal and ideological gain. In the end, it means nothing. The vote was a UK vote. The UK result is the only one that is relevant. London voted to remain. Should we allow London to have its own arrangement? You can make up any region you like and pull a result out of it. Scotland, Wales, NI, London are only historical geographical regions of the UK. They have little meaning on their own in this day and age. The more people move around the world, the less relevant regional identity becomes. It just one big melting pot these days.

The problem is England would love to dump us , the republic can't afford us , and we are a failed state , a lot of buyer's from republic come up and buy our lamb and can sell it on as country of origin Ireland , I dread to think what's going to happen when we are no longer a EU country .
I can only speak for myself but I don't want to dump anyone. I'm happy with the union. I'm proud of it and I hope we can find a way for it to stay together. There is a huge part of England that is not Westminster / London so please don't tar us with the same brush. At the end of the day, you can't rule over a people these days so it will be up to NI if they want to stay in the UK or unify Ireland. Peace and Love as Ringo would say.

I think the southern attitude is you broke you own it

Big + 1.

Disagree with the talk over money, if there was a vote tomorrow the Republic would vote against a united Ireland, we don't want hassle caused by others.

Also disagree with a nonsensical comment about a golden ticket. I hear zero Brexit talk over here, apart from that embarrassment Kenny fawning in no. 10. Sooner the next election the better.

Would a fresh election change much in the political make up of a government in the Republic?

Hard to say, polls suggesting a rise in Fianna Fail vote share. But it all depends on the day, and which others would get what % to form a coalition. Voted FG until last election, tbh I'd be delighted if I never saw them in Government again after the last 5-6 years.

The more elections we have the more the Shinners will get seats in the Dail. FFS!!!
Not after the last election , SF got enough seats to help form a government but they refused to talk to any parties , they don't want to be in government , they talked a load of bull of what they were going to do when in power and then refused point blank , they showed their true colours as a bunch of useless clowns.
