It’s a matter of perspective really, I use spanner’s to make a living so they have to do there job when called for. I have/had “decent” mid range spanner’s in the box and they have there place, but when you bend, open up the jaw or snap one not only do you lose some more skin but the job is stopped! so, not only do you have to pay twice for the spanner but the time lost can’t be replaced.
I appreciate top brand tools aren’t for everyone but they have their place ?
Yep, I can appreciate that if you spend all day on the spanners the best stuff would be worth having. I imagine there's a degree of trust from the customer if you have quality tools too. Fair enough for the apprentice to start out with cheaper tools, but if you're paying out for a man with experience you would expect him to have some inventory to back it up with.
Having said that, I know a guy who had a (none agri) contracting business, and he paid out for some better tools as he got fed of of the cheap stuff letting him down after seemingly little use. It cost quite a bit more, but didn't last any longer as it all went missing or got wrecked by his men just not caring for it as you would something you had paid a little extra for. A lot of the hand tools thus became pretty much disposable and the price paid out matched accordingly. I went looking for a spanner in his shed one time and there were half a dozen toolboxes each with a large selection of none matching spanners, barely a 17 or 19mm to be found amongst the lot.
