Seems a modern fad with no advantage to me Today my Navara was in for service so asked my mother to run me to York to collect it . I drove her car there and she drove her car home, Great until she stopped for some milk and found out i had her keys in my pocket and it would'nt start A mate had same issue when the dropped his borther off at Manchester airport. But he realised he had the car keys as he was sat in departures while his car was half way home You can't leave keys hidden inside vehicle now so end up looking to see whos got them in their pocket They say its progress

Complete waste of time
A solution to a problem that never existed in the first place
My vehicles all have keys, even the new Toyota van I bought last year and I prefer it that way, at least you know the key is in the ignition on the steering column
My OH has a keyless Honda and when we are in it, we have to ask each other who has the key fob ???

All of mine are keyless. Drives me mad as I was perfectly happy with a place to put them, now they end up in one of the cup holder’s. Like yourself other than a sales gimmick I can’t see a reason for it.
Washing the wife’s and my company car this afternoon I realised I needed to unlock them so the mirrors folded out for a good clean. Only they have proximity sensors that continually lock and unlock themselves when you are level with the front doors. Trying to pop into the shop leaving a window or sunroof open means the alarm sets itself off because of the proximity sensors. Who test drove these cars pre production???

Surely the cars were busy telling the driver "no key detected". My Qashqai does, tho admit I have never driven it without key on me

Dumbest idea ever. I mean of all the problems with cars they took one that wasn't really all that bad and made a worse problem.
How about adding more cupholders, or seatbelts that pull out every time without getting stuck, or putting door handles in the same place on every car, radios that don't lose signal when I drive past a hill, finding somewhere to put a proper bloody spare tyre and a useable jack to go with it.
No let's give you this annoying piece of plastic that goes flat and means you can't start your car and will lose every time you go in the car. Let alone driving off with the key in a passengers pocket ffs what a terrible invention.

Oh my Christ; it’s fantastic. You can have your keys on your person; carry a small child/shopping/anything bulky in one hand and use the other to open the door…none of this scrabbling around in your most awkward to reach pocket to find an actual key to go in an actual key hole. In the rain. Or ice. As for these people leaving with the car keys and having another drive it home…I’ve never been in one that doesn’t alert whoever remains in the car that the key has been removed…with quite some urgency I might add…

every “keyless” vehicle I have driven, from my own Subarus or work Nissans / Toyotas, ALL start beeping away at you if you walk away from them with the keys in your pocket & the engine still running.

Keyless cars are great, leave them in your pocket, walk up to the car, open it, start it, drive somewhere, lock it - all without fumbling for keys.
Especially in the dark or if you are paralytic drunk. . . 🤣

As to “who has the keys ?”, well obviously the DRIVER is the one who should have them. If you’re sharing driving, leave them in the centre console & the driver grab them when you park it 🤷‍♂️
It’s not that hard

They are complete shite.
Try running 3-4 men working out of one pickup with a stupid key, we can’t “hide” the key anywhere because you can just get in and drive it away!
We have lost the key in the cab many times as stuff gets moved about
The pickup has let me drive away many times when the key wasn’t in the vehicle
If I unlock it on a morning and throw my dinner bag and key in as you walk away it locks the keys inside and won’t open, we then need the spare key
I recently went to collect the pickup from the garage after it had some work done, it wouldn’t start as it couldn’t detect the key, I had to split the key and warm the battery in my hands to get it to work
When your in the pickup at dinner time you can’t just flick on the ignition to crack a window or put the radio on, you have to press the brakes, start it, put it in nuetral, stop it, then press start again with your foot off the brake then it will ignite, but then beeps constantly
The door is meant to unlock when the key is in your pocket you slide your hand on the inside of the handle to lock/unlock it, if your carrying something awkward I will never do it for you, then the next time as you touch the handle to jump in it quickly locks you out!
I was in my wife’s car and the car couldn’t detect the key, when it does this you put the key in a slot in the glove box, I went to put it in the slot and dropped the key, it fell behind the glove box, not only would the car not start but I had to dismantle the glove box to find it!

when we had a proper key is was never ever a problem, yet the keyless causes daily problems

Sign of the times I guess.biggest fear is going to vehicle whilst out and battery is knackered so can’t get in.id like to think these batteries are common and available from garages but I really don’t know.maybe I should carry a spare one in vehicle

I hired a Toyota in South Africa which wouldn’t lock with the remote until you walked away from the car. I was told that it was designed like that.
So you leave the car in a car park with all your luggage in it and before it does decide to lock some little toe rag can open the car and leg it with something!

Most of them have a magic plastic key that is hidden in the fob for such instances. You slide a cover off the door handle to reveal a key slot so you can still get in with no battery. Not sure about a Tesla tho as they have a ‘credit card’ key…but if you have no batteries in a Tesla you’re really up sh*t creek I guess 😂

Not a good idea. As said above started the Range Rover one morning left it to defrost got in it and drove off got five miles down the road and ‘key not detected’ light came on. Keys in the house
Same thing with Toyota Pickup have bait in the pickup a few days a week as a rule and you can’t sit in it with the door open without the bleeper going unless the ignition is on

Never had a issue with it myself. We never keep them in our pockets. Just chuck them in car centre console when driving.

I see new hollands new t7 range have a stop start button.

A key was never a problem though. Can't really see point in a button.
