Wheat variety for this autumn

Possibly looking for new one this year if I can get seed, got kerrin and skyscraper but not sure about the skyscraper. Doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the kerrin. Won’t ditch either but thinking of speeding the risk a little.

If you want to stick with group 4’s my first choice would be Saki (soft endosperm), it’s late maturing but very clean. Graham is having a really good year and Parkin has done brilliantly from what I’ve heard so far with the benefit of being really early to get OSR in behind. Don’t underestimate the skyscraper, i grew it last year and had reservations but it was hands down the highest yielding wheat I’ve ever grown (perfect season admittedly) And has looked really good in trials this year holding its own to yellow rust.

I’ve only cut a bit of kerrin upto now and skyscraper is still not fit, just had a few people say it’s not done well, I guess I’ll have to see.
I have toyed with the idea of gleam, I cut some for another farmer so I’ll see how that does.

Extase, Extase, Extase, Extase.
Good disease Resistance profile, yielded at least a tonne/ha more than anything else here.
No T0 or T3 or anything specific to control yellow rust.
Why grow anything else?

Depends what you mean pushed. It doesn't stand like Lili. I'll be drilling gleam and, if I can get some, Relay. If not then Graham or Costello.
I meant in a more fertile slot than I’ve grown it this year. I’ve got Costello as well, which looks quite good.
what would you choose after OSR as a first wheat on heavy ground

Milling or feed? I use a *lot* of nitrogen. Only reason I've a few varieties is that my daddy and brother are also going for Gleam. Personally I'd rather a bit of a lean and an easy thresh.

I've sown gleam on some absolute filthy land and it was very good. I like it, especially so as I tipped it early on in the trials stage :)

Pleased with Parkin this year. Early and won’t fall over (not that there was much danger of that this year).

Skyscraper not looking anywhere near as good as Spotlight with me.
First time for both so be interesting to see what happens once through combine.
Possibly not a good year to judge any varieties with so many weather/field specific factors at play:unsure:

Costello has done very well for us this year. Had a ton of Gleam and Gravity seed to try. Gravity yielded very good, Wouldn’t have Gleam again.
That’s interesting and now confusing . Had gravity last year and it all went down. What didn’t you like about Gleam.
I’ve got Costello to do, which looks good.
