Rollers rotate on the McCale, and annoyingly the tine holder assembly flaps about from side to side when going over bumpy ground ( tramlines collecting straw is a bugger ). I don't know if this is the same for other makes ?

The nuts on the McHale have a habit of ripping bales, I’ve added extra washers on mine to stop the thread sticking out which helps but doesn’t stop it. If i was buying another I’d have a prodig but I use it in winter for ripping apart bales. The prodig has grease nipples on the rollers.

I have an SGM one what they called the contractor model. I’ve had it for god knows how long probably as far back as when he started if I’ve got my story right. It sort of swings if you are stacking on uneven ground and moves one way or the other rather than ripping the wrap. It’s seen a few tractors and loaders out but hard up itself now. Stacked thousands of bales. Worn where the rollers bolt onto the frame now but thats more the drivers than the machine to blame. Could be 20 year old
