Which excavator?

Hours wouldn't be a problem

- check the chains, top and bottom rollers, sprockets, is the idlers well out? Is the chain stretched? What has been replaced?
- put the bucket down, lift idlers off the ground, track motors to the back and track forward... this will tell you the health of the track motors.
- check for black smoke in all modes, E, P, HP
- check slew motor dip stick
- when machine is off and arm just off the ground get out and give the hitch a push, slow ring, dipper arm bushes
- check bucket ram for scores/seals
- visual inspection of the wear on the boom arm bottom bush by the cab

So,
I’m thinking of getting a tracked excavator, got quite a few jobs need sorting, drains (there’s always drains to look at[emoji849]), ditches to clean, tracks to repair, possibly some muck loading, shed project in the next couple of years, etc etc.........
Looking at something around the 13/14 ton mark with a budget of 20-25k
Is there any breed to avoid/ anything I should look out for when viewing/testing?
I’ve seen some ex hire Doosan‘s dX14 around the 6k hour mark, look tidy and there’s a few to choose from. Anyone any experience with Doosan? Reliability ok?/parts ok to get hold of?

Thank for your advice.

Bought a 6000 hour JS130 10 years ago and other than a new fuel pump it’s never been any bother. I think the newer ones are very problematic though. Ours is now on 9000 hours and we’ve just been offered what we paid for it.

Thanks, some good pointers there ?

Just read the little ad you posted again, when the dealer says 60% undercarriage that means it's really about 35-40% lol

But if you want to ring undercarriage Ireland they will give you a price for all rollers, idlers, chains, bolts etc so you are armed with the info of what it will cost you to put right.

But at the end of the day if the rest of the machine is looked after the under carriage you can fit yourself quite easily

It’s ok, just spoken to them and both machines sold this week ?, so the search goes on. Would of been handy though as they where only 15 minutes away.

Tidy. Will be a very reliable machine. Where did you find it in the end?
Had plenty of choice at this place.

There was 4 locally but all had sold within a week of advertising!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
